Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
The month of December is always full of activities and a bit hectic with all of the goings-on here in school; this year is no different.
Of the many newsworthy events, I would like to highlight one in particular.
It is my honor and privilege to announce that yesterday Woodbury Junior-Senior High School passed the re-validation assessment and was once again chosen as a National Demonstration School for AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)! This prestigious accomplishment places Woodbury among an elite group of schools. To put this into perspective consider: AVID serves over 425,000 students in more than 4,800 schools in 48 states and across 16 countries; only 120 are demonstration schools and only 1 is a Junior-Senior High demonstration school.
We couldn't be more proud of all our students, parents, teachers, administrators and other staff who made this possible. I would like to specifically thank our student ambassadors - Jayda, Teddy, Jordan, Savanah, India, and Naveah - whose bright smiles and clear explanations easily conveyed the importance of AVID in their lives to our evaluative guests. I would also like to thank Donna Cohen, AVID District Director, and Maria Lario, AVID Department Chair, whose dedication, tireless effort, and vision made this accomplishment possible. Both have been here from the beginning - over 10 years ago at this point - and have helped steward AVID from its infancy to the incredibly impactful prominence it has in so much of our student success. Our AVID Elective teachers - Mrs. Luthke, Mr. Otis, Mrs. Lario, Ms. Fitzgerlad, Mr. Chandler - also did a tremendous job preparing their classrooms to be showcases. Further, I would like to thank our Board of Education for its ongoing commitment to supporting AVID over these many years.
AVID would not be such a success school-wide without the many other teachers and staff who have also been trained and are implementing strategies in their classrooms; kudos to each of you! One of the many reasons Woodbury is such a special place is because everyone is rowing in the same direction for our students!
Congratulations to all!!
Keep Love Present,
Dr. Vivadelli

Junior High - Band and Choir Concert
Junior High students performed this week in the annual Winter Concert. Band students played seven selections ranging from Jingle Bells/Jungle Drums to Bell Carol Rock. As always, Mr. Park had the students sounding incredible. Choir students sang 9 songs including the White Winter Hymnal, I See the Light, and Inscription of Hope. Mrs. Johnston directed another amazing performance.
Congratulations to all students who participated!
Anthony Averett Gives Back
Woodbury alumnus and current member of the Baltimore Ravens, Anthony Averett recently donated a bunch of gear to our high school track team. Coach Cannuli and AD Dan Howey helped distribute the items. We are grateful for Anthony's generosity and kindness. It is heartwarming to see Anthony finding so much success on and off the field. He truly is someone each of our students can look up to!
Moorestown Rotary Club Donates Books
The Moorestown Rotary Club donated 350 brand new books to Woodbury City School District. The Rotary Club is a recipient of a grant from Barnes and Nobles.
The 6th Grade Book Club is seen here checking in new books for the Junior-Senior Library. Books will be distributed to the elementary schools and the local barbershop and hair salons in town.
"Chemistree" Ornaments
Students in Ms. Thomulka's AP Chemistry class participated in a brand new lab this week. They made real silver ornaments by using an oxidation-reduction reaction to extract silver out of a solution using a few simple chemicals like corn sugar. The students hung their ornaments on the class “Chemistree” and will take the ornaments home as a memento to remember the class. What fun!
Woodbury Community Closet
The mission of the Woodbury Community Closet is to provide students with resources they may not have available otherwise.
The closet will be full of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and clothing that will be donated by faculty, students, and people from the community. Please give donations to Mrs. Dougherty or Ms. Comer.
Students will be able to order items of need through an online google site. Inventory will be taken by student council members and uploaded to the site weekly so the students have an accurate list to choose from.
Orders will be filled by Mrs. Dougherty or Ms. Comer and delivered confidentially to the student(s) in need. Please consider helping this worthwhile cause.
