English Village Family Newsletter
May 2023 Week 4
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS:
Greetings, EV Families! We hope that you are enjoying the holiday weekend. We’d be remiss if we didn’t highlight the Memorial Day holiday. Please take some time to stop, think, and reflect on the importance of this holiday.
Please remember that this is a time to honor and celebrate those who gave their lives in our military protecting our freedoms. The soldiers who died in combat defending our country gave their lives so that we could live ours. This is so much more than a day off, it is a time to remember the selflessness and care that these men and women had for our nation and for others.
Also, please consider talking with your children about the significance of the Memorial Day holiday. There are many potential lessons and teachable moments to find in this discussion. Thank you, take care, and have a great, short week!
Sincerely,
Jason Lewis

A note from the Nurse
Hello and happy May! We are nearing the end of the school year and are getting excited for the warmer weather to finally come.
During the month of May, we will be going into classrooms and teaching students about careers! As school counselors we believe in teaching our students the importance of career readiness- even at the primary level. It can be very interesting to see how individuals’ interests and hobbies can ultimately align with the future careers they choose! Some of the things we will focus on in our lessons are the skills required– communication, goal setting, problem-solving, teamwork and time management to name a few.
Here are somethings you can practice at home with your own children:
Time management: Set a timer for your children in the morning while they are getting ready for school.
Responsibility: Teach them how to make their bed and/or put dirty clothes in a hamper every night.
Goal setting: Setting little goals like “This week I will read for 30 minutes” (This will especially be great during the summer to keep some consistency)!
Have a GREAT month!
