Symbols represents or stands for something else.
The cross
The cross is a main symbols in a lot of religions around the world.
The Dharma Wheel
In Buddism the Dharma Wheel is one of the oldest symbols, it represents Buddhism in the same way that the cross represents Christianity or the star of David represents Judaism.

In the Jewish religion the Star of David is a important symbol, it represent the shape of King David's shield

In Jewish religion the word "Torah" means; The law of God as revealed to Moses and recorded in the first five books of the Hebrew scriptures.
