Newsletter Week 7 Term 4
Carew Peel Forest School - Thursday 1st December 2022
Ngā mihi nui!
Classes for 2023
We are having a bit of a change up with our classes in 2023. One of the most effective ways for teachers to continue to improve their pedagogy is by teaching across all age levels curriculum. As such we have reorganised the age levels where some of our staff we will be teaching. We have a large number of year three students next year and to accommodate this we are organising our classes to best meet the needs of our learners.
In 2023:
Pip and Jane Tait will be working with the Piwakawakas, Annabel will be working with the Pukeko in a Year Two and Three class, Susanne will be working with the Korimako in a Year Three and Four class, and Jayne will be working with our Year Five and Six students in Kereru. Our kaiawhina/learning assistants Hayley and Jolie will continue to support Piwakawaka/Pukeko, and Korimako/Kereru respectively.
Unfortunately the lovely Emma who has been supporting the large numbers in the Piwakawaka will be leaving us to head to Lincoln University in 2023. How exciting for her!
Our reports will come out early next week and they will contain information on where students will be in 2023. A lot of thought has gone into the placement of our year three students. As always, please come and see your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
We have a fair idea of what our new reporting system will look like in 2023. However, if you have any further thoughts you would like to share, please let me know.
Peel Forest Trip
On Wednesday December 7th we are heading off to Peel Forest for a bit of a look around, install some Weta boxes, go for a little walk, create a bit of art, and eat lunch.

Pool Update
Yay! The builders are here today and the pool is almost ready to go. Pool keys are ready to go on sale on Monday. You’ll need to pop into the office to pick a key up and sign the updated (picnic friendly) pool user agreement.
However, we need families to sign up to help out with the pool testing over the summer break. Jolie and Craig have been walked through the testing process and it is super easy!
Ideally we need as many people as possible to come on board so we can share the work over the summer period. Hopefully each family will be rostered on for roughly 5 days in a row or so.
Our pool experts, Tim Exton, Deanna Connor, and Chris Hendry have completed a pool chemical handling course and will be available to help out and take care of the larger water issues that arise from time to time.
BUT WE NEED YOU to sign up and let meet with Tim on the 16th of December to learn what to do when testing the pool. It is easy and fun, and if we don’t get hear from you, you’ll be hearing from us!

Huatakerekere Ashburton Gallery Visit
Tarahaoa Hub
Last Tuesday we enjoyed creating dinosaurs with clay. We spent the morning talking about our care codes for art and working with clay, then we got stuck in and created a range of dinosaurs! Our next step is to paint them and find a home for them!
This week we have been swimming at the EA Networks. We have been making lots of progress in the pool and having lots of fun on the courts. The water safety lessons have been a hit and we are looking ready for a summer full of swimming! A big thanks to all of the parents who have come to watch and Jolie for joining us each day.
