2nd Grade Art

Second Graders are at the beginning stages of a collaborative unit, studying an illustrator that will be visiting our school later in the year, named Kim Smith. (We have several books in our library that she's illustrated!) After examining and discussing the illustrator's style, students are creating an expressive cartoon version of themselves which will later be used during Library as inspiration for a story they will write.

Watch DOG Program

I would like to take a moment to recognize the fathers and father figures that have participated in our Watch DOG program, here at Johnson. We implemented this program last year in order to increase a male presence at Johnson. Research shows that a strong male presence in elementary schools reduces bullying and prevents violence in schools. After the recent tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, we are even more grateful to these men who are helping to keep our sweet school SAFE and SOUND! It takes a village to raise a child, and these men are a part of the Johnson Village.

Thank you, Watch DOGS for all you do…..both at home, and here at Johnson! You are the VERY BEST!!! Your kids and grandkids love you!!!

Third Grade Artists studied symbols from the past, present, and future in preparation for a collaborative marketing unit in their regular classroom. To practice their graphic design skills, students created several versions of a personal logo in their sketchbook, gathered feedback from their peers, and then developed a final version to put on display.

They will soon be working as graphic design teams to create a logo for an animal shelter.

Student Online Art Gallery

Students will be adding to their digital portfolios on Artsonia. Parents - you can easily add relatives' email addresses into your child's account, and then they will be notified when new artwork is posted for viewing. It's a great way to share students' creativity with family members that live far away! (Their account keeps artwork from year to year, allowing you to see their visual art skills develop over time.) Visit Johnson's Gallery to see all of our amazing artworks.

Digital Footprint

One of the things that students learn in library is how to be a good digital citizen. This is so important now that we are 1:1 with iPads. Below are some tips from Common Sense Media about how parents can help manage their child’s digital footprint.
