Message from the Principal

Black Bear Families,

May is flying by here in Black Bear Country, and we just finished a huge accomplishment. Our third, fourth, and fifth grade students finished their state testing! This will provide us information going into next year about your students and their learning growth this year. A huge thank you to all of our classroom teachers who not only facilitated testing in their classrooms but worked so hard to prepare students for the testing. Another huge thank you to our Dean of Students Mrs. Fetherston, who organized all of the testing schedules and supported testing in the classrooms.

This Wednesday on our teacher workday, some of our staff participated in celebration and reflection activities. May is a great time to do this, and many of our teachers will be doing this with their classes. As a parent, you can also have conversations with your students about what they will remember learning about this year, and what they are excited about learning next year.

This Saturday, May 20th, we are having our OSU Day of Service event in our beautiful garden from 9-12. Please read the information below about this event and we hope to see you there!

Working with you for our students.

Finally, tell your friends and neighbors that have incoming kindergartners that our Kindergarten kickoff is May 25th from 4:30-6:00 pm. We will have popsicles, activities and first timer bus rides. Also, if you register online a t-shirt will be available for pick up at the event. Looking forward to welcoming you,

Jim

Garden Work Party

Saturday, May 20th is the annual OSU Alumni Volunteer event in our school garden. It is always wonderful to get help, and show them that our families are very invested in the success of our garden, too.

If you sign up it gives us a head count so we can properly plan to feed everyone. If you don't want to sign up, just show up! There is plenty to do - prepping soil, weeding, planting, mowing, trimming ....

Join us Saturday, May 20 9am-12pm

See you in the garden!

Pam

Thank you to Portland Nursery

Thank you Portland Nursery for the seeds and starts for our garden. This will help our garden grow!

When you're out shopping for garden supplies, keep our generous donors in mind and thank them for their donation to our school!

No Place for Hate Picnic

We have some great things to celebrate at Tualatin Elementary! Hendrik, the safe routes to school coordinator, has arranged to have a traffic playground painted on the blacktop at the back of the school on May 20th and 21st.

Reading in May Bingo Challenge

Hello Tualatin families,

For the month of May, we'd love for students to participate in a Reading Bingo board at home. You will see there are many different activities students can do to score on the bingo board. If your student fills out a Bingo during the month of May, please have them bring it to school with your signature and they will receive a special prize! Have fun celebrating literacy love! *One Bingo Board per student :) Here are the Bingo boards: English/Spanish

Thanks so much!

Parking Lot Protocol

  1. If you are picking your student up after school by car, you should wait in your car in the car line. Please do not leave your car unattended in the car lane.
  2. If you are picking your student up on foot/walking, please wait for your student in designated areas--by the flagpole and open grassy area at the front of the school.
  3. If you drive to school and want to pick up your student by the flagpole, please park your car in a legal parking spot and wait by the flagpole for your student.
  4. There is no pick up in the back parking lot. There is not a safe way to turn around in that parking lot, so please do not pull in and wait.
  5. Please do not come inside to wait for your student for safety reasons. If you would like to come inside to look for lost and found or for another reason, please come to the office to check in.

Thank you to everyone for helping keep our Tualatin community safe for all of our students.
