April 18th - April 29th, 2016

Dear Parents,

This year has flown by, and the third grade STAAR test is quickly approaching. The STAAR Math Test will take place on Monday, May 9th, and the STAAR Reading Test will take place on Tuesday, May 10th. The students have been working hard all year long preparing for their success! We have been so pleased to see all of the wonderful growth and progress in each student this year. We appreciate each student's effort and perseverance as they have challenged themselves in third grade.

On Monday, April 18th, we will be begin a STAAR review. This review will last two weeks, April 18th - April 29th. During this time, we will review all concepts that the students have learned this year, and concepts that will be covered on the STAAR test in Math and Reading. We will also focus on concepts that the students have struggled with during the year. These two weeks will be rigorous, but they are extremely important to help the students review key content and strategies. Our goal of the review is for each student to achieve optimal success on the STAAR, by enabling them to utilize their knowledge and skills learned this year. We also want to build their confidence and ease any fears as the test approaches.

In order to make these two weeks fun for the students, our review will be Star Wars themed! We have done this the past several years and the students have loved it! We will be decorating our room with Star Wars items. If your family are Star Wars fans, and have any items that they would like to lend to the classroom for the two-week review, please contact your child's teacher as soon as possible. All items will be returned to you at the end of the review. Last year we had full sized Star Wars cut outs, costumes, masks, light sabers, toys, etc. The kids were so excited, and it made the two-week review fun and special.

We are also asking parents to send in small prizes to be given out during the two weeks. The two-week STAAR review will be study intensive. We are asking for small party favors, or novelty items to award the class during the review for hard work, and to help make each day fun. Please go to the following sign up genius link to review items needed, and to sign up if you would like to help:

Last year, the prizes were a huge hit and the students really looked forward to them each day. Any donation made is greatly appreciated by your teacher.

We really appreciate your participation in making our STAAR Wars review a huge success! Fantastic parent involvement is why our school is so wonderful, and it is why we have such motivated, highly successful students! Thank you for partnering with us in this endeavor.

May the Force Be With You,

The Third Grade Teachers
