Teacher Talk
Fall Greetings!
It's officially October around here and I am shaking my head in disbelief. I've realized that I'm like the children. When something is really fun, the time just flies by! I am having a lot of fun so everything is happening in a flash, Halloween is coming and then it will be the holiday season. Gulp!
It's fall conference time. The school is encouraging every family to come have one on one time with the teachers and look around the classrooms of your children. I like to have time to chat and answer questions, ease any lingering worries. Here is the Conference Sign Up page again. I'm going for 100% to keep my up my parent conference streak! I've met with all families for the past 5 years and I like even numbers. If a time/day won't work, just email me. I'll work with you: meet somewhere else, meet earlier, meet later. If nothing else, I'm going to be persistent!
Notebooks came home on Friday. Each week we'll pick notebooks to send home. Please look at what your child has been working on. Feel free to take a blank page and write them a note of admiration. (Please don't correct anything, write comments on their work, OR give them feedback on what they need to do better. I promise we'll talk at conferences and I've got a list of goals. Your sole job is to enjoy and notice accomplishments. Trust me on this one.)
Okay. Enough of me. Look down to see what we're doing this week in class!

Class Wish List
We really, really need more flashlights!! If you see any at The Dollar Tree, Dollar Spot, etc. please grab them!!! I don't have enough anymore for everyone to have their own. Please DO NOT spend a lot for them. Cheap is the way to go.
-duct tape in solid colors (blue, red, black, yellow, pink, etc)
Concepts We'll Study:
Writing Workshop: I'm so excited that students are becoming super excited about writing time. I had many groans when they had to stop this past week. Who would ever think groans would bring so much joy!??! This week we'll continue to develop our stories. We're going to look at ways to add in details that give our readers a clear picture of what is going on. We're going to try to make our readers feel something as they read our words. If there is time, we will look at transition words. These nuggets are super helpful when moving writing along in a smooth way.
Science: Mixtures were super fun this past week. We'll take a DCA over what we learned and then move into exploring different forms of energy. First up will be labs on mechanical energy (moving objects only). We'll look at force and work that happens to objects when we use mechanical energy. We'll really be emphasizing that energy can change from one form to another. This unit is always super fun and engrossing.
Math: My math class is totally rocking rounding numbers! We played a super fun game called "Round and Round" with number cubes and paper. All you need is 3-4 dice and paper. Ask your child how to play it.
This week we'll be reviewing addition, subtraction, and graphing to prepare for our first math DCA. All reviewing will occur at school. We'll spend the week practicing any concepts that were still confusing or fuzzy.
Social Studies: We are really practicing working together to follow our Class Constitution. I'm making copies to add to everyone's Take Home binders.
