WITH HEARTS AND MINDS, WE'RE TURNING VISION INTO ACTION
Principal's Message
With Halloween behind us and the first snowfall[s] settling into the mountains, November is the month when we turn our thoughts, attention and for many ... excitement, to the winter season. It is also a time each year when we collectively pause to honour and acknowledge those that made the ultimate sacrifice. At Rossland Summit School, we are working on a virtual Remembrance Day Ceremony for Tuesday, November 10th. Students and teachers are working on poems, songs and artwork the will be shared through our school video.
"We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude."
~ Cynthia Ozick
Rossland Summit School is a special place to work and learn and my thanks goes out to our school community for contributing to our school and spirit. Together we will continue to maintain a healthy, safe, engaging and student focused learning environment.

WKTEP-UBC | Growing Professionally and Learning Together
In October we welcomed Teacher Candidates from the West Kootenay Teacher Education Program [WKTEP-UBC] to Rossland Summit School. WKTEP and UBC have health and safety as their top priority.
Teacher Candidates have been briefed on our SD20 and RSS health and safety protocols and are expected to fully comply during their time with us. This week our Teacher Candidates will continue to observe classes and will engage in some direct teaching.
We are excited to have our WKTEP Teacher Candidates join us to observe and support our safe and structured learning environments for the next 2 weeks.

RSS PAC will earn $15 for every book sold once total sales in SD20 exceed 300+ !!! For more information on this initiative please feel free to contact your PAC or come to our next meeting!!

Created by Kids
Another annual fundraiser that is back by popular demand is the Created by Kids Art Fundraiser.
Your student will receive a template to create some artwork on, and their artwork can be made into cards, mugs, iphone covers or many other fun items. Teachers may choose to do this in class, or just send home the template for students to do in their own time. If you have a lovely piece of artwork from your child and it fits the same dimensions this can also be used, just attach it to the original template and send it in.
You place your order online, and the Artwork must be returned to school by Tuesday, Nov 17th. Expected delivery will be mid December.
πΈ PHOTO DAY | Part 2
RSS Photo Day for students that MISSED their photo, including our students on gradual return learning plans, is scheduled for November 18, 2020. Please note - Time is dependent on the photographers' stops at other schools and the road conditions. Please contact Tanya in the office for more details.

Communicating Student Learning at Rossland Summit School
It certainly was a challenging start to the year and we continue to navigate new obstacles on our journey together. With this in mind, we are reaching a point in the year when students and teachers are now settling into learning routines and we are turning our attention to assessing and reporting student learning.
Last year several RSS teachers were involved in a Provincial Reporting Pilot and this year we are continuing with these reporting guidelines, as we have been informed that the Province will be moving to this format in September 2021.
What and when can you expect to hear from your childβs teacher regarding learning progress this year?
