Student Chromebook Reminders
- Students need to be responsible and bring Chromebooks fully charged each day!
- Check to make sure your charger cord is both plugged into the wall outlet and device properly, otherwise, it isn't going to charge.
- Handle them with care - but if it gets damaged, let a teacher know immediately. We can help put in a work order to fix it!
- Only use your GCISD device for school purposes - these are not to be used for personal use.

3nd Payment of $50 is DUE on or before Tuesday, January 16th!! Please send in your payments ASAP!! Cash or Check payable to Bear Creek Elementary.
The total cost for both students and chaperones is $230. Below are the 2 payment plan options:
OPTION 1: Payment Plan
- $80 Initial payment (includes a $30 non-refundable deposit) DUE OCTOBER 16th
- $50 payment DUE no later than NOVEMBER 13
- $50 payment DUE no later than JANUARY 16
- $50 Final payment DUE no later than FEBRUARY 12
OPTION 2: $230 payment in full was DUE on OCTOBER 16
Humanities
- Cause and Effect - students will focus on the causes and effects within a variety of texts. They will also analyze foreshadowing, roles/functions of characters in plot, conflict, and third person point of view.
- GCISD Reads Book Challenge - students will select their challenge for this year (click the link below for details)
LANGUAGE ARTS:
- Dictionary Skills Review
- New Spelling lists this week
- January 9th - Spelling Lists and word sorts resume; Spelling TEST on Friday, January 12th
SOCIAL STUDIES:
- Unit 4 - Road to the Revolution Students will focus on identifying the causes and events that led to tensions between the colonists and Britain, as well as identify and describe the causes leading up to the American Revolution. Students will study specific historical events, including French and Indian War, Stamp Act, Quartering Act, Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party.
- BEGIN Cornerstone Task 4 - Students will create a class timeline of the causes and effects of events that led to the American Revolution (Conflicts Between the American Colonies and Great Britain) and find a way to incorporate key figures in their map (John Adams, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin, The Sons of Liberty, George Washington, etc.)
MATH & SCIENCE
- NO CBA this week
- Review of Unit 5 - Addition and Subtraction with Fractions - add and subtract like/equal denominators, unlike/unequal denominators, and 3 fractions. Students will also focus on equivalent fractions, simplified fractions in lowest form, change an improper fraction into a mixed number, and Interpret models of fractions
- FACT Practice!!! Students are expected to know multiplication facts up through the 12's. Students need to practice nightly using flashcards or XtraMath.org. This helps strengthen fact fluency of all operations.
- NIGHTLY HOMEWORK - Students need to complete the homework sheet for each corresponding day, so they are prepared for class! Students are expected to use RUBIES strategies while reading and solving problems. They MUST show their thinking for each problem.
SCIENCE:
- Earth Science - students will identify the main types of alternative energy resources available instead of using fossil fuels.
- Alternative Energy PBL - Students will collaborate with groups to become an expert on a particular type of alternative energy. They will create a presentation to teach the class about their type of alternative energy.

- Around the World at BCE on Thurs., January 18.

RESPECT at BCE
Daily RESPECT is an expectation for all 5th graders at BCE! Students carry a daily Conduct Folder and bring it home weekly to communicate RESPECT to you.
