PTO Will Not Run Next Year Without a New PTO Board; PTO Election Nominations Due Monday, May 15
Dear ERA Families and Staff,
Thank you for the wonderful support given over the years to our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). We are writing today with important updates and a call for help. Our current PTO leadership team members' terms are coming to an end this spring after serving for four years. A normal term is two years, but our current board upped their commitment due to a lack of interest in serving.
Eagle Ridge Academy’s PTO has a long-standing reputation for creating fun events and experiences for students, families, and staff/teachers. It has existed for nearly 20 years. Besides creating memorable events, it raises important funds for the school.
The PTO is seeking new members to take on responsibilities to continue the tradition of providing meaningful and interactive events, support our teachers and staff, and partner with the school on endeavors to sustain the Academy into future years. Eagle Ridge Academy will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. What better time to start fresh with new creative minds leading the charge; new ideas, innovative changes for what our families want, and sustainable duties.
- Older events like Ski Club, Party with a Purpose, and Summer Grade-Level Gatherings have already been put on hold due to a lack of help.
- The sale of PTO Spirit Wear, the Box Tops and Coca-Cola Redemption Program, and the collection of voluntary dues need support and leadership.
- Organizing and making Rockin’ the Ridge successful is important. It creates revenue that supports Festival of Treats, teacher grants, the Senior Party, ERA event support, conference meals for teachers, Teacher Appreciation Week, grade-level moving up celebrations, back-to-school events, ice cream treats, the annual Staff Party, refreshments for school events like graduation, senior prom support, Gryphon Garden support, and ice cream trucks at the end of the year.
The PTO needs a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, teacher reps, and event leads. These positions can be done in pairs (except treasurer). A strong team with many hands can make a big difference. Joining forces with another person to co-lead helps build community and adds an additional voice and support.
Full training on each position, sharing of files and important historical information, and transitional support will be provided. The current leadership is still here at ERA and is willing to do whatever it takes to make the transition successful and streamlined.
If you would like to help keep the tradition of our PTO going, please consider joining forces to make a difference.
The PTO will hold a spring election meeting at Eagle Ridge Academy on Tuesday, May 30, at 6:00 p.m. At this meeting, the PTO will elect a new board and event representation for the 2023-24 school year. Nominate yourself or someone you know here. No experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun, meet others, and serve our community! Nominations are due by Monday, May 15.
For additional information on what each position entails and to get more information on the PTO in general, please contact Elena Ryabinin or Tina Loutsch by emailing pto.eagleridge@gmail.com.
Thank you for your time and consideration,

Camp Read-a-Lot Coming Soon; Volunteers and Snack Donations Needed
It's that time of year again. Soon, the ERA library will be transformed into a campground! During their final library visit of the school year, students get to enjoy reading inside tents with flashlights and a s'more-style snack. Students are expected to turn in their remaining checked-out books and pay fines on their account by their scheduled visit to Camp Read-a-lot.
The school library needs volunteers to help host each class! Hosts will serve snacks, read with the students as they wish, and help with cleanup. (Per ERA policy, volunteers must pass a background check.) Sign up here.
If you aren't able to host, the library is also requesting snack donations listed in the sign-up. Students can drop these off in the library. (Cash donations provided to the librarian the week prior to the event will also be accepted to purchase the snack items.)
Thank you for your time and support of the ERA students and library,
Mrs. Sommers Tillotson, School Librarian

Grades 2-7: Call for a Parent-Led Gryphon Youth Sports Commission
Greetings,
Over the past five years, I have been responsible for the launch of our Eagle Ridge Academy Gryphon athletic programs. We have seen significant growth in participation and have always been conscious of trying to open opportunities for students grades K-6 that mirrored programs at the Varsity & Junior Varsity levels.
Our school district has grown quickly - along with the volume and competitive level of our teams. There is overwhelming demand for teams at lower levels. I believe building out more independent teams at grades 3-8 is critical to providing a well-rounded education and advancing the competitive goals of our varsity coaches.
One of our major constraints has been finding coaches, leaders, and coordinators for the lower levels. We do not have the decades of experience or volume of participants that larger community programs have, but I do believe together we can build a superior student experience.
This is why I am writing to you today. We are making a call for a parent-led Gryphon Youth Sports Commission. The mission will involve planning, recruiting, and assisting in the coordination of youth sports teams. At this point, we need advisory council members to help refine a mission, develop goals, and build an organizational structure.
Please express your interest by filling out this short form. We will use responses to set a spring meeting this May/June in time to plan teams for soccer and volleyball this fall and organize training for parent youth coaches over the summer.
Go Gryphons!

Eagle Ridge Academy Announces Football Cooperative Agreement with Hopkins High School
UPDATE: The meeting at Hopkins High School for families originally scheduled for Thursday, May 25, will now take place on Wednesday, May 24, at 7:00 pm.
A Minnesota State High School League cooperative agreement is in place for tackle football between Eagle Ridge Academy (ERA) and Hopkins High School to begin in the fall of 2023. All 9th-12th grade students will be eligible to play Varsity or Junior Varsity for their teams. ERA is also adding football options for 6th-8th grade students through the Hopkins Youth Football program.
“As I think about our community and how it has impacted young men here so far, I want to extend that opportunity to other young men in the community,” said Hopkins High School Head Football Coach Trevor Tolly. “Partnering in a co-op with Eagle Ridge will do just that. Joining our schools to form the co-op allows both schools to tap into a wider range of resources, including coaching expertise, training facilities, equipment, and potentially even funding. This can greatly improve the quality and competitiveness for both schools.”
“We’re excited to open up this opportunity for our students,” said ERA Activities Director Kris Babler. “Sitting down with Coach Tolly and Hopkins High School Activities Director Jared Ellerson, it was clear they had a long-term vision that aligned with ours for the importance of athletics; for the development arc our students are going to need to play; and for bringing our students in at the youth level.”
Coach Tolly will visit ERA Monday, May 15, during the School of Logic and School of Rhetoric lunch periods to meet with students. He will host a meeting at Hopkins High School for families on Wednesday, May 24, at 7:00 pm.
“As a dedicated and passionate football coach, I am driven by my love for the game and my desire to develop young athletes into exceptional players,” said Coach Tolly. “Football has had a profound impact on my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to pass on the skills and knowledge that I have gained to the next generation.”
Registration information will be forthcoming. Click here for more information on Hopkins football.
Thank you for Attending the Upper School Art Xpo

Classical Corner: What Learning Will You Embark On?
It is the time of year that we are beginning to wrap everything up in our classrooms. While we teach to the very end, we take time to reflect and look to the future. In a few weeks, we will administer our final assessments, meet to discuss the growth of our students, and consider our goals for the following year. We will pack away materials, stack the chairs, and dust the shelves. But, as a testament to our teachers and their love of learning, we will not close the books. Indeed, it is also the time that sign-ups for summer book studies circulate, that excellent books for personal professional development are shared, that requests for summer conferences are submitted. Yes, there is relaxation in the summer, but we also immerse ourselves in learning in over the summer, in scholé if you will.
Some selections are newly discovered, while others stand the test of time. But all have been discussed among staff as providing insight into that which we teach while being a springboard for new learning. What learning will you embark on this summer?

Thank You For Helping the PTO With Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week 2023!
This week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week at Eagle Ridge Academy! To celebrate, the Eagle Ridge Academy PTO has special treats planned for teachers and staff every day this week.
On Monday, teachers and staff were treated to lunch from Wingman Matt's food truck. Wingman Matt, located in Eden Prairie, gives a portion of their profits directly to families struggling with cancer-related medical bills.
On Tuesday, teachers and staff were gifted Target gift cards thanks to the generous donations from ERA families. The PTO also decorated the lounges with pencil "flower" bouquets and inspirational stickers and quotes!
On Wednesday, the PTO set up a buffet of salty and sweet snacks to help teachers and staff conquer the rest of the week.
On Thursday, administration provided a breakfast of donuts, yogurt, and fruit to all teachers and staff members to start off the morning right.
Thank you, teachers and staff, for supporting our students daily and ensuring that they achieve their highest academic potential. Thank you, ERA PTO, for organizing this fun week of appreciation. Please make sure to thank a teacher this week! There are still a couple of ways you can help the PTO thank our teachers and staff:
