Principal's Post
Hello, Parkwood Families!
Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you were able to spend some quality time with your family and friends over break. It has been a wonderful week back to school after the break. We began our second semester on Tuesday, January 3. Students are bringing their report cards home today, Friday, January 6. Please be sure to review your child’s report card and have a conversation with your child about his/her academic progress to date. You may keep the report card, but please sign and return the report card envelope.
During the month of January, our character trait is a focus on Responsibility: The ability to respond appropriately when making decisions. We all want our children to grow up to be responsible adults and productive citizens in society. We want them to feel, think, and act with respect for themselves and for others. Responsibility is a skill that develops over time as people grow and mature. The great thing about this journey is that practicing responsibility is all about choices. We have a great opportunity to praise children for making good choices and to teach and counsel them when they make mistakes. This is what growing up is all about! I would encourage you to talk about the importance of responsibility and challenge your student to think about the choices they make and what it means to be responsible.
Beginning the week of January 16, we will be administering the Winter MAP assessments. Please make sure your child brings their charged Chromebook to school every day!
With cold weather here, please make sure your child is prepared to go outside at recess. Our general guideline is that students will go outside when the temperature is at least 20 degrees or warmer with wind chill taken into account. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately with coats, hats, gloves, etc.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for sharing your lovely children with us!
Sincerely,
Sue Bamford
Great Things Are Happening at Parkwood!
SHINE Award - Hailey Johnson
Hailey Johnson is a student who displays many of the character pillars on a daily basis. One character trait that is displayed many times a day is caring. She is sensitive to the feelings of others, always thinking before she speaks or acts and considers those around her. She comes to school happy and eager to learn, which shows that she is thankful for the opportunity to learn and be with her classmates. Hailey also makes those around her feel special and included.
Hailey shows responsibility by being accountable for her actions. Hailey follows the rules in the classroom and all areas of school and follows them even if no one is looking. She turns in her assignments on time and can be counted on to have the things she needs.
Hailey is trustworthy. She can be counted on to keep her promises, and to do what she says she will do. She is honest and can be counted on to tell the truth.
