Around Campus this Week...
LUMBERTON CAMPUS WELCOMES HELEN DEMEO, SUBSTANCE ABUSE COORDINATOR
I would like to introduce myself as the new Substance Awareness Coordinator. Many of the staff have been very nice allowing me to observe the students in their classrooms. My job entails counseling the students regarding drugs and alcohol, mental health issues, court charges, family issues, self mutilation, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues and any thing else you feel maybe affecting the student negatively. I'm hoping to start a smoking cessation group and an anger management group. I'm available in the Child Study Team Office at ext. 4436 from 8:30 to 2:00 daily. If you have any referrals or questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Whatever referrals I receive are confidential and I explain to the students I only break confidentiality if they are going to hurt themselves or threaten to hurt someone else. So far Lumberton Staff have been very friendly and I hope to hear from you.

Mr. Morris' History Haven
HISTORY OF MAY
May was named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May. Conversely, the Roman poet Ovid provides a second etymology, in which he says that the month of May is named for the maiores, Latin for "elders," and that the following month (June) is named for the iuniores, or "young people".
Big Days in MAY.
May 1st Beltane
May 5th is when Cinco de Mayo or the Batalla de Puebla is celebrated in Mexico. It is also celebrated widely in the United States.
May 10th is Golden Spike Day (1869 – Completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad – Promontory Summit, Utah)[1]
May 10th DON’T FORGET MOTHERS DAY!!

If you are free during the two periods indicated, please feel free to join the festivities!!

Principal Jermaine Kamau
Welcome back from a well needed break! We are poised for a great finish @Lumberton as we have made many changes that will improve our overall performance as a school community. Take the time to be creative and innovative in your practice. We know that if you keep doing what you have been doing your going to keep getting what you've been getting. Following that logic, it is time for change just like the weather. I will be checking in on you offering feedback and support. See you in your classrooms.
