Elementary/Intermediate Fall 2017
HELLO COLOMA SCHOOL COMMUNITY!
Mrs. Ickes
Hello! My name is Karyn Ickes and I am the new Technology teacher for K-5 students this year. I am looking forward to an enjoyable year helping students learn to type, code, use Google slides and docs, and just have fun using the computers.
So far, students at the Elementary have been practicing their typing and mouse maneuvering skills. At the Intermediate building we have been learning/reviewing how to use Google Slides and practicing our typing skills.
I have created a website for use in all our classes: ickestech.weebly.com
On it I have links by grade for items we are using in class and it also contains my contact information. I will continue to add to it over the course of the year as we learn more about using the computers. In addition, I am including a link to our Technology Class expectations and behavior expectations. Simply click here.
I am excited to join the Coloma District and am enjoying getting to know all the wonderful students here!
Mrs Kirksey
Hello, Coloma community! I am so excited to have begun our 2017-2018 school year. This is a great year for music class, with more performance opportunities available!
For those of you who do not know me, I am Charity Kirksey, the music teacher for Coloma students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. This is my eleventh year at Coloma Community Schools and my second year back teaching K-5 music after teaching various subjects and grade levels throughout the years. In high school and at WMU, I focused on vocal and general music, singing in choirs and acting in musicals. When not teaching music, I enjoy spending time with my husband, my 14-month old, and our dog and cat.
Fun things are happening this year in music class! Third grade will be having a holiday program called “Holiday Favorites,” and the date and time will be announced soon. Third grade families, please be on the lookout within the next month for a flier announcing the concert. Second graders will also be having an evening program this year, and it will take place in the spring. Kindergarteners will have Invited Music classes at the end of the school year, where parents or special guests are invited to come into our music class and see what it’s like learning about music in kindergarten. First grade is still in the works, so I will inform you when we have a plan. Our 4th and 5th grade after-school choir, Comet Choir, had their first rehearsal on Monday, and we will be having at least two performances this year. We are even hoping to perform at Woodland Terrace Senior Living Community for the holiday season!
If you ever have any questions or concerns about K-5 music here in Coloma, please feel free to contact me at ckirksey@ccs.coloma.org. I look forward to hearing from you! :)
Mr. Selvidge
This year I'm excited to be the new Art Teacher at Coloma El/Intermediate, after being the technology teacher for the past 2 years. I was the Art Teacher at Washington El. here in Coloma for 16 years, and am happy to be back. We have had a great start in Art Class this year! The picture above is a mural that K-3 helped to color the first weeks of school.
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade have been working hard learning to draw people out of shapes! Shapes are great because we can color them in and draw details inside like clothes. 1st and 2nd grade also added movement to their people by bending the arms and legs.
3rd grade has been working on an abstract design using their name and reviewing their tempera painting procedures.
4th and 5th grade have been studying Cartooning! We have been making 3 panel cartoons showing a school rule, with an emphasis on craftsmanship and good coloring techniques.

Mr. Veine
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year. I am very excited to be your child’s physical education teacher in grades (K-5). I have 18 years of experience in Coloma Community Schools. I spent the last 3 years teaching in the Junior High School. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help your child grow physically, socially, and emotionally throughout the school year in physical education class. I will see your child once a week. Then one class at each grade level will have P.E. a second day each marking period on Wednesday. All students must wear tennis shoes in the gym. Students (3rd through 5th grades) are allowed to bring their own water bottle to the gym. Please make sure their name is on it. Our current focus will be on locomotor skill development, and proper social interaction during cooperative games. Below is a link to learn more about Mr. Veine.
You can contact me through email (pveine@ccs.coloma.org) or calling the school.
