The students are off to an excellent start in ELA! They are doing a wonderful job following expectations and doing their best! This week in ELA, we will complete a variety of introduction activities for our first unit- Generations. Our essential question for unit 1 is “what can one generation learn from another?” All of the stories we read during unit 1 will relate to the essential question. We are looking forward to a fantastic school year!

MATH
It has been an energizing start to the 22-23 school year. It was great getting to know your students as we worked through some introductions and class procedures. We introduced our year long game that runs in the background of our normal curriculum. Each student is now a "recruit" into the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. Throughout the school year, students will be given opportunities to rise up the ranks and hopefully make it to the ultimate rank of Avenger while completing our normal math work. The "game" points are totally separate from "grade" points. More of this will be discussed at Curriculum Night next Monday, August 22nd. I hope to see you there!
SOCIAL STUDIES
It has been a great first week of school getting to know all of the students! Next week, we will start our Social Studies curriculum by completing a geography challenge. We will then jump right into Chapter 1, The First Americans. This chapter focuses on Native Americans and how they adapted to their environment in different regions of North America.
SCIENCE
It has been wonderful meeting all the new faces in science this year! Next week, we will dive into our life science curriculum with our first unit “Microbiome”. This unit will introduce students to microorganisms as we explore all the ways they can help keep us healthy. We will also continue to work on classroom routines such as bellwork procedures and how to work effectively in groups.
