Teaching Our Students to Solve People Problems
- Using an "I statement" (i.e. "I don't like it when you chase me at recess. I would like you to stop.")
- Listen/try to understand the other person's perspective (i.e. "I heard from a friend that you called me a name. Did you? Can you tell me why you did that?.. and LISTEN)
- Use and I statement and walk away (i.e. "I don't think you are playing fair. I am going to play something else.")
During these meetings, after we modeled using these strategies, we divided the students at each grade level into small groups of 4-6 and presented them with common people problems that happen at RO and the students practiced using these strategies.
To close each meeting, we presented them with a 4th strategy, an "I Need Help" Form. We informed the students that if they have tried to solve the people problem on their own, using these strategies, and the problem persists, they can reach out for adult help by filling out a blue "I Need Help" form that are located in every room of our school. There is a purple box outside of my office where students can place these forms. This allows the students with a safe and more private way of reaching out for help.
Students are reporting that they are using these strategies and we have had five students, since Thursday, reach out for adult help. Feel free to reinforce these strategies with your students at home or in their lives outside of school. Thank you! - Mr. Getchell

New Year Reminders...
- Students may be dropped off to enter the building no earlier than 8:25am.
- School starts promptly at 8:40am, which means students need to be in their classroom ready to go at that time. If you are dropping off, please do so between 8:25 - 8:40. They are marked tardy if they enter the building after 8:40am.
- Students are outside for recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees with the wind chill. Please ensure your student(s) are dressed appropriately and have jackets, hats and gloves.. with their names written in them. Thank you!
Reminder: RO Attendance Email Address
To streamline our communication and to help you get information to the right place quickly, we have created the following email address for you to report upcoming absences, dismissals, changes in transportation, etc.directly to the office staff. You may still copy the teacher on the email, but the main point of contact will be our RO Office Team.
Please begin using the new 'roattendance@easton.k12.ma.us' email address immediately. I recommend making this email a "new contact" on your smartphone so that the next time your child is sick or going to be late or dismissed, you have it available to you.
This new method is intended to replace the handwritten note carried in by students.
Thank you in advance for you support with this new process.
