Principal's Corner: MHS Data Delve Recap
This is the first year our high school has had a SLT (school leadership team) that I have been aware of. The purpose is to cultivate leaders among those who are closest to the work with kids, teachers, and to increase achievement for kids.
Part of that work this year involved a lot of getting to know each other, although many teachers have worked among their colleagues in our building for a number of years. It is building a culture of giving voice and being part of the decision-making. It is definitely a process, and I am proud o of the commitment as we look ahead.
You each take a parent satisfaction survey from the Studer Education Group, who we partner with to help guide us toward improvement school and district-wide. Your feedback impacts our building strategic plan for improvement. It will be presented to staff on June 5, with the top-ranked three 'glows' and the bottom-ranked three 'grows' through a specific roll-out aimed at continuous improvement.
Likewise, our student body takes a student engagement survey from Studer, and likewise those results are also a big piece of our Student Achievement focus for goal-setting. That data will be shared with teachers and staff in the same rollout process on June 11 in the a.m.
Finally, our employee engagement is administered through Student as well. That data will not be back until mid or end of June given the timing of the window to complete it. Moving forward, the data will be shared with staff before leaving, as it serves to help me grow as a leader and be transparent about what our work is together.
On May 24, our SLT met to engage in their first 'Data Delve.' I recently wrote a blog post about it so you can understand what we are doing, why we are doing it, and how we will determine action steps that will positively impact STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. As parents/guardians, you have a huge stake in ensuring all learners are supported for THEIR TOMORROW, in essence being LIFE READY when they graduate from Marshall Public Schools. It is right for me as a leader to be transparent with you about our work. Please take some time to read the blog post if you haven't already. I love feedback and hearing from you, so I can seek understanding of varying perspectives.

Stakeholders including students, a Board of Ed. member, and our teachers have spent time and energy reflecting on our values through the lens of Equity and Continuous Improvement. They have sought input from the greater staff and later this summer you will see revised handbooks, both Co-Curricular and Student/Parent Handbook for 2019-2020.
The purpose is to seek input and really look at what we are doing, what we want to see aligned to our educational goals, and make some changes. This will be an annual process to ensure we are continuously reflecting and making changes where necessary to adapt and support our learners.

Student Services Updates
ACT Score Reports: Junior Families (Repeat Item)
Understanding Score Reports - To help students, families, and educators understand the ACT score report, ACT has a number of resources. DPI (Department of Public Instruction) has linked many of them at the DPI ACT Data and Results Webpage.
The Understanding Your Scores page (including an interactive score report) and Using Your ACT Results (also in Spanish) are helpful resources for students.
Accessing Scores Online - Students can access their ACT scores online one week after the paper score report is received. Students logon to The ACT Student Web Account and create an account using the information on their paper report. This information can be found on page 3 in the Taking the ACT Test booklet that students were provided when completing their answer document non-test information. Questions may be directed to ACT Contact Us, ACT-WebAccount@act.org, or ACT Student Services at (319) 337-1270.
ACT Retakes on National Test Dates - Fee waivers are available to students with financial need. Schools order fee waivers and distribute them to students. Fee waivers are one of the “support materials” schools can order online. Ordering instructions and more information about fee waivers are found on the ACT webpages. You may also call ACT Customer Care at 319.337.1320 and they can help you place an order. Free ACT test prep is available to all students through the ACT Academy. Only the statewide, grade 11, ACT test is used for accountability.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Tebo or Mr. Walden with questions.
