Wildcat Report

Volume 3 Issue 4 Oct 2, 2020

Principal Message

As we enter week 8 of the school year I am excited that we are still running as smoothly as we are. We have had a few hiccups along the way but our Covid numbers are still far lower than I would have realistically hoped for. If you have been paying attention, other school districts have begun to cancel remote learning. Their arguments in most cases include the following:

1. Students who are learning remotely tend to have less academic success across the board.

2. Teachers are doing the job of nearly two teachers in a normal year.

3. Covid numbers in most areas are lower than expected (at least in the areas choosing to eliminate remote learning).

When I hear others citing these issues, I tend to believe they are universal as we continue to get feedback from parents, teachers and students. I see these struggles in a large number of students in our remote learning environment here at WHS and I feel we are better able to support these students in a face-to-face setting. For that reason, we are encouraging all students to return to face-to-face learning for the 2nd nine week period unless the student has a health condition that puts them at higher risk. I want to be clear that we will not force anyone to come back to face-to-face at this time as we are still offering remote learning. We just feel that most students are best served face-to-face.

Please feel free to call us and visit more with any concerns or questions you may have.

October 1st was the OPENING DAY of FAFSA for those Seniors planning to attend college in the Fall of 2021. FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Filling out the FAFSA helps you get MONEY for college through grants, scholarships and loans. Next week, through your English class, the Counselors will discuss the FAFSA process, college applications, Senior contracts and more. The following week the Counselors will have a day to assist you with starting the FAFSA process.

Football Game Student Section Lottery

As many of you know we have a very limited number of tickets available for sale. An email will be sent out Sunday evening to every student with a form attached and will allow students to enter a student ticket "lottery". Whether students already have a ticket through their parents or need to purchase one, they will be required to fill out the lottery form to be able to sit in the student section. Here are a few guidelines for the student section:

- Face coverings are required at all times while in the stadium

- Students will only be able to stand/sit on non-blue tape areas in the M section

- We will only sell tickets electronically and they will all be in digital format

- Students who are selected by the lottery will be notified and given a pass to sit in the student section (instructions will be emailed after the lottery on Wednesday)

Thank You Custodians!!

Today was Custodian Appreciation Day and it was well deserved. Our custodians come to work everyday and take care of our students in maintaining a clean and safe environment. We take just a moment to tell them they are appreciated and we confess that we could NOT have school without them.

Congrats Kourtni

We are so excited to announce our first REACH graduate of the 2020-2021 school year, Kourtni Devries. Kourtni is a very hard working, determined student, full of heart and joy.
