Southside School Safety
Here are some important reminders about visitor, arrival and dismissal procedures. Please remember that these procedures are in place to make our school campus a place of safety.
- As always, all visitors entering the building will be identified by a Visitor sticker that is received either in the office or given to you when you check in during arrival in the front lobby.
- During arrival in the morning visitors will check in at the office or lobby area to sign/check in and put a visitors sticker on.
- Dismissal in the afternoons please note the following: 1. Buses are dismissed before any other student is dismissed. 2. Car rider students will now exit a side door instead of the front door. This door is always locked from the outside. Our front doors are locked. 3. All visitors must check in at the office during our PM dismissal. If your student has an appointment that you need to get he/she to in the afternoon please write a note so that we can make sure he/she is ready to go and waiting in the office. We do not dismiss students from the office unless it is an emergency or it has been previously arranged.
When we have a school event, all guests must enter through the front entrance by the main parking area. The downstairs door in the rear of the school (#6) can only be used by parents who are picking up students from our after-school program, Tiger Academy. Mrs. Burkhardt has asked the director of Tiger Academy to direct all visitors to the front entrance.
New Immunizations to be aware of for your student!
Parents and Guardians,
New regulations were passed in Kentucky that will require additional vaccinations for your student to attend school. The new law adds Hepatitis A and a second Meningococcal vaccine to the list of required immunizations. This new law goes into effect on July 1, 2018.
1) The Hepatitis A vaccination series is comprised of two vaccinations received 6-months apart. This vaccination series will be required for every student. The CDC has recommended this vaccination series for several years, so many children may have already received this two-dose series but since it was not a requirement for school attendance, it was not listed on most immunization certificates.
2) Another new immunization requirement is for students who are 16 years old and older. In addition to the Hepatitis A requirement (above), those students who are 16 or older will also be required to receive a second Meningococcal vaccine. The first Meningococcal vaccine was required between the ages of 11-12, upon entry into 6th grade.
A new immunization certificate will be required for every student at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR CHILD'S PHYSICIAN TO DETERMINE WHAT YOUR STUDENT NEEDS TO MEET THIS REQUIREMENT AND OBTAIN A NEW IMMUNIZATION CERTIFICATE.
Please visit www.shelby.kyschools.us for more information and to view the new documents.
NOTE: If you select to decline immunizations based on religious reasons, you will
also find the KY revised Declination to Immunization form to complete at the link above. Please review this document carefully as the requirements for completion have changed.
Thank you for your time and attention in making sure your child is meeting all of the vaccination requirements for school attendance.
