What's the Buzz?!?
Week of September 28, 2015
A glimpse into this week...
- All books must be in by Wednesday, September 30 in order for students to receive a dress down day on Thursday. I saw a lot come in on Friday, so I am sure that we are well on our way. If all of you could send an e-mail with how many books your class has so far I will put it on the announcements tomorrow!
- This week is a busy one for our students: 7/8 graders will travel to Turkeyfoot Lanes on Tuesday for a bowling field trip. They will wear their gym uniforms and eat a hotdog lunch at the bowling alley! Thanks, Carly, for organizing this for our students!
- Nine 7th and 8th graders will travel to St. Albert the Great on Wednesday, September 30 with Mrs. Ott and Mr. Moorhead for a leadership presentation called Rachel's Challenge. Rachel Joy Scott was the first victim killed in the Columbine shootings, but left behind a powerful message about kindness changing the world. If you'd like to know more, please visit http://www.rachelschallenge.org/.
- Our 1st graders will have a visit from the fire department on Friday in preparation to learn about fire safety!
- Picture day is October 9. Students are permitted to dress out of uniform, but must be wearing their Sunday best because it is a Mass day. No jeans or sweats are permitted.
5 Minutes for Faith
Every day we are faced with making decisions that will impact the lives of those we teach and the people they will become. This is no small or easy task. Always turn to the Lord for He will guide you in the right direction!
General Info...
- Thanks to those of you who volunteered to moderate a club! So far we have the Furry Friends club moderated by Miss Fahey, Chess club moderated by Mrs. Reese, Art club moderated by Mrs. Speranzini, and Book club moderated by Mrs. Masters! I really appreciate all that you do to give our students opportunities like these to participate in what they are passionate about! If your club meets after school please ensure that students stay in your classroom until their parent(s) pick them up.
- Traditionally, the first set of conferences has been mandatory for each family. However, this year, they will not be mandatory. Parents will be able to sign up for 15 minute time slots via Signupgenius.com to meet with each teacher or team of teachers. Please discuss in your collaboration meetings if you prefer to meet as a team or as an individual teacher. Please let me know what you would like to do by the end of this week.
- October 23 is not only our half day in-service but will also be when our Fall Family Light Up the Night event takes place. FFN and myself are meeting this week to finalize details and I will fill you in as soon as I know more! We will be asking students in grades 5-8 for help in facilitating each station as well as putting together a number of skits. I will touch base with each of you to discuss this.
Mr. D
A lesson in objectivity in grading practices.
I had to share this funny video with all of you. I find it ironic that when I search 'meaningful grading practices' this is what one of the results was. This should give you a good laugh for Monday morning :)
