Great Books Group to Meet this Coming Tuesday, March 12th
The GBG will meet next on Tuesday, March, 12, 2019 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at St. Michael School to continue a discussion of Walter van Tilburg Clark’s classic short story The Portable Phonograph. Missed the first reading? no worries! Clark’s work is a short story and can easily be read in less than a hour. Copies are available at no cost at the back of the parish church or in the business office of Saint Michael Catholic School. Come join us!
At the next meeting GBG readers will consider these questions:
Are Dr. Jenkins, the Musician, the Writer and the Reader symbolic characters?
Do the arts, which the names of the characters suggest, have a common origin?
How was the Musician’s experience of the music different from the experience of the Reader and the Writer?
Why is the Musician last to rise after listening to the music?
The Reader and the Writer both stop to thank Dr. Jenkins before leaving, but the Musician does not. Why?
Does the portable phonograph have a symbolic meaning?
To find the answers, pick up a copy of The Portable Phonograph and join us!
Our 1st grade class made masks to celebrate Mardi Gras this week.

Congratulations Anna for your Glasstastic Sculpture Debut!
We are so excited to share that one of our students was chosen this year to have her original artwork made into a glass art sculpture as part of BMAC’s biannual Glasstastic exhibit. The exhibit will run from March 9- June 16 at the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center.
Our art teacher, Mrs. Pickering, worked with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade this fall to bring a concept to life by submitting drawings and descriptions of imaginary creatures. Anna’s original drawing was one of the 20 chosen (out of 1200 submissions!).
Click here to learn more about how this exhibit was organized, and see the list of kids and glass artists who will be honored during the opening of BMAC's spring exhibits.
And check out this article in the Brattleboro Reformer.
Anna and the 20 other young artists will receive a photograph of the sculpture that was inspired by their drawing and a certificate recognizing their work. We encourage you all to stop by the Art center at some point to enjoy the exhibit. (see flyer below for details)
Our Girls are Off and Running!
Our Girls on the Run Team held their first practices this week.
Monday proved colder than expected so they did their discussions and running indoors... there were girls on the run everywhere! It was such fun to see them engaged in discussion with one another and the coaches, then off they ran down one hallway or another.
Today we had some warmer weather and the girls enjoyed some fresh air and laps around the school grounds.
