Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 3, Week 3 - 5 August 2022
'In the spirit of reconciliation, Mary’s Mount Primary School acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.'
Teach us to be like You in all our ways.
Teach us kindness, gentleness, generosity, and to be
giving, forgiving, loving and caring.
Teach us to follow in Your humble footsteps.
Guide us to the place You want us to be, take control.
Mould and shape us into the brilliant beings we were
always defined to be.
HAPPY PRIMARY PRINCIPAL'S DAY MRS BELL!!
Dear Parents and Carers
To laugh often and much,
to appreciate beauty,
to find the best in others,
to leave the world a bit better...
to know even one life has
breathed easier because you have lived:
that is to have succeeded.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
What does it mean to you to be just a little kinder in your daily life? To me, it means greeting those I meet with a smile. When you are kind; you are generous, nurturing, caring and compassionate. Seeking to be kinder than necessary is so important because everyone we meet is fighting some kind of battle. A random act of kindness could help a person work through a hardship they are carrying. Through our kind actions, we are modeling to those around us how to treat others with respect. To be kind is to demonstrate respect.
How can we as adults and leaders of our community share kindness with each other? How can the children in our care learn from us and aspire to be kind in all they do?
YEAR 3 PERFORMING ARTS – SUPER STARS
The Year 3 children represented Mary’s Mount Primary School in the Choral Speech section on Tuesday. The children’s performance ran for over 6 minutes. They were amazing and should be proud of their efforts. All staff and parents who attended were impressed with how well they performed.
THREE WAY INTERVIEWS and GRADED REPORTS
Thank you to the parents, staff, and children for your active engagement in the three-way interview process this year. The feedback from staff has been affirming. If you as parents have any feedback you would like to share, please let me know. email@example.com
This afternoon, Friday 5 August, your child will bring home their graded report document for Semester 1, 2022. The grades will be available for Religious Education, English and Mathematics.
BEFORE SCHOOL – PRAYERFUL MOMENTS
On Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8.20-8.30am the Chapel will be open for members of our community to gather in God’s name and be STILL to connect through prayer. I aim to be there each Tuesday and Thursday, however in my absence another staff member will open the Chapel for this unique prayer experience. Music will be playing, and prayer cards will be available to prompt prayer for those participating.
All are welcome including parents, grandparents, students, and staff members.
Next date – Tuesday 9 August
MASS – MONDAY 8 AUGUST
On Monday 8 August we celebrate St Mary McKillop Feast Day. Please join us for mass in the hall at 9am. All are welcome.
Our thoughts and prayers have been with Haley Kuppens (class of 2020) and her grandparents as Haley's mum, Kara passed away last week. The family have asked us to share details about the funeral next week with the MMPS community, and we send our condolences to the Kuppens family during this difficult time.

Catholic School Parents Australia (CSPA) will be working with state and territory Catholic parent bodies, school parents and friends groups, diocesan directors and principals on the rollout of a parent survey which is now available on the new ENGAGE website: CSPA 2022 parent survey on student wellbeing and learning
The survey aims to capture parent perspectives on issues of concern that impact their children’s health, wellbeing and learning, to help inform future federal government policy and the Catholic education community. Feedback through this survey will also add to the bank of evidence on how parent engagement can enhance student learning and wellbeing. CSPA has partnered with the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY) in relation to this work.
I urge you to take the time to complete the survey, especially if you feel that the past couple of years have been difficult for your family. As I mentioned in last terms newsletter, if we keep silent on these things it is likely the presumption will be that we are all okay.

SOCIAL WORKER CORNER
Filling our Emotional Cups
You may have heard the saying ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup,’ but in the busyness of our lives sometimes we can forget the importance of filling our own and our children’s ‘physical and emotional cups’.
After a day of school and work we can all be completely depleted. It can help if we are mindful of this and intentionally do some simple activities to restore our own and our children’s energy. Life can be more peaceful and enjoyable if we fill our cups before we attempt to do something that may drain our energy, such as a trip to the grocery store or attempting homework.
Here’s some simple ideas.
- Walk or sit outside for a few minutes- time spent in the fresh air and greenery are naturally restorative
- Play, play, play — having fun is the fastest cup filler ever!
- A quick game of chasey in the backyard
- Laughter and lightness — be silly and laugh lots
- Tell each other a joke
- Read a book together
- Listen to an audiobook together
- Put on some music and dance
- Re-tell a favourite funny story
- Share what each of you are grateful for
- Have a healthy snack- and eat it mindfully talking about the textures and flavours
- Sit on the couch and take some slow, deep breaths together

CANTEEN NEWS - WE NEED YOU!!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for TERM 3 & 4
This term we managed to get through, but we are in great need of helpers for Term 3 and Term 4. Without helpers in our canteen, we can't provide yummy lunches for our students. So if you can help out mums or dads (or a grandparent or other relative), even for just a few hours, please either contact me or let the school office know via firstname.lastname@example.org.
No experience necessary. Lunch and a cuppa provided. New volunteers welcome - I would love to meet you - and the children love to see mum or dad helping out in the canteen.
