Presenting Renaissance Artist
At the Fine Arts Museum you will be able to explore in depth the many different artist during the Renaissance time period. Along with background information on the artist, and there will be displays of their artwork. The different art pieces created during the Renaissance period displayed religious images. Today they are now viewed as great works of art, rather than devotional objects. Renaissance art started the transition of Europe from the medieval period to the early modern age.
Michelangelo Buonarroti
Michelangelo was known for being a sculptor, painter and architect. He started his training at the young age of eleven. At age eleven Michelangelo was an apprenticed to Domenico Ghirlandaio where he learned the basics of art. Michelangelo first mastered the techniques of fresco paintings. Many of his pieces demonstrated a blend of psychological insight and physical realism. Michelangelo helped design the iconic dome of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Also he is well recognized because of his statue Pieta. Pieta is a statue of the Virgin Mary with her dead son in her arms. Lastly, he is well known because of his painting of the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
Raphel Sanzio
Raphel was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. He learned the basic painting techniques from his father. Raphel's work was also influenced on the works of Leonardo and Michelangelo. At the age of eleven, his father died and Raphel took over his workshop. Raphel is well known for the School of Athens, Sistine Madonna and The Marriage of the Virgin. After his death, his movement toward mannerism influenced the painting styles in Italy's advancing Baroque period.
Masaccio
Massaccio was the first artist to use linear perspective in his paintings, employing techniques of the vanishing point. He was inspired by Giotto to move away from the idealizations of Gothic art. Donatello and Brunelleschi were friends of Masaccio who also inspired his artwork. Masaccio career as an artist only lasted about six years, he died at a young age. One of Massacio's first pieces was the San Giovenale Triptych, found in the Museum of Cascia di Reggello. He is also known from the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne. Masaccio's fresco artwork of The Holly Trinity is considered to be his masterpiece of his career.

Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo was an Italian Renaissance man. Leonardo is known for his painting, sculpting, writings, geologist and inventions. With Leonardo's diverse talents, he is considered as the Ultimate Renaissance Man. His artwork shows the ability to portray light and shadow, as well as the relationship between humans and the surrounding landscape. Leonardo's painting of Mona Lisa is his most well known artwork. He is also well known for his painting of The Last Supper. The Last Supper is the most reproduced religious painting of all time.
