Principal's Message
We have enjoyed having our preschool students back in the building since the middle of October and look forward to our next group of students joining next week. Students in grades kindergarten, first, and second grades whose families selected the hybrid model of instruction will return to the school building the week of October 27 as I shared in earlier messages. Students who are level I EL students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will also return next week. Your child's teacher reached out with the days your student will attend each week. The remainder of the school days will entail a morning meeting followed by 60-90 minutes of asynchronous work completed by the child without face-to-face instruction from the teacher.
Breakfast and lunch will be available at no charge to all of our students at Sterling Elementary.
Due to health and safety precautions, we need all of our students' families to complete the Health Questionnaire each morning your child is scheduled to attend prior to sending your child to school. Please keep your child at home if you answered “yes” to any of the questions on the questionnaire. Due to COVID-19, your child will need to wear a mask when attending school and will not be allowed to share school supplies and materials. We will adhere to the CDC guidelines with six feet of physical distancing as well.
Please provide the following for in-person learning:
- Backpack
- Extra mask (in backpack)
- Chromebook
- Lunch (optional)
- Water Bottle (optional)
If you are in need of a backpack and/or mask, please let us know so we can supply one for you.
School Hours: 7:50 a.m. - 2:35 p.m.
Transportation: provided for bus riders
Walkers: crossing guard available
Breakfast/Lunch: provided at no charge
We are looking forward to seeing your child in person beginning Tuesday, October 27 or Wednesday, October 28, depending on their assigned day. Should you have questions, please contact us here at the school: 571-434-4580.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Short, Principal

Join PTA!
Keep in mind that anyone can join the PTA: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, close friends, high school brothers and sisters, neighbors, church members, etc. Anyone who has an interest in making your child's potential a reality can join the PTA and make it possible.
PTA Fundraiser
As you know, Sterling Elementary PTA customarily has a fundraiser in the first part of the school year to pay for things that are not fully covered by the school budget: field trips, school assemblies, fun family events, teacher supply requests, Teacher Appreciation Week, and so much more. We also understand that in these times, asking families to sell items to fundraise may not be where we want to invest our time and energy. With our current health situation due to COVID-19, having your child approach others in person may not be the safest approach to fundraising this year. When discussing several alternative fundraising options at our PTA board meeting, we wanted to take into consideration your time, as well as the safety of our children.
And that brings us to you.
This is the PTA’s ONLY MAIN fundraiser for the year. In lieu of having your children sell products to friends and family, we are simply asking for a monetary donation. Our goal for our fall fundraiser is $10,000. If you divide that amongst our families, that is less than $25 per student. The great news is, 100% of the proceeds will go directly into the school, whereas in past fundraisers, the PTA only received a portion from the company sponsoring the fundraiser. This money can be used to assist our teachers and our school in countless ways.
In order for this fundraiser to be successful, we need participation from you. Please consider contributing $25/child to get us to our goal. This is a tax deductible donation and you will be able to print a copy of the email/receipt for tax purposes.
