Ellen Ochoa was born on May 10, 1958. She has 3 brothers and 1 sister. She grew up speaking English. Ellen Ochoa's parents divorced when she was in High School. She lived with her mother, sister, and brothers.
Personal Life
Ellen Ochoa is married to Coe Fulmer. She and her husband have two kids together. She played the flute.
Education
Ellen Ochoa graduated from Grossmont High School in 1975. She graduated from two colleges. The first one she graduated from was San Diego State University in 1980. Ellen Ochoa graduated from Stanford University also.
Astronaut Life
Ellen Ochoa's application for NASA was rejected in 1987. She tried again in 1990 and NASA accepted it. She started training to be an astronaut. Her shuttle took off on April 8th 1993. She has spent almost 1000 hours in space. Ellen Ochoa said, "Getting to be an astronaut is tough for anybody, not just Hispanics or women."
Famous For
Ellen Ochoa was the first female Hispanic astronaut.
