Principal's Message
Outdoor Lunch Pilot
On Wednesday, August 25, WCPSS sent a communication to schools and families regarding lunch procedures. The communication stated the following: "All schools are being asked to identify as many indoor -- and outdoor -- eating options as possible. The Delta variant is less likely to be transmitted outdoors, especially when students are distanced. Some schools have already made changes to reduce the density of people during lunch time."
For this reason, we will pilot outdoor eating on a rotational schedule. Each week, one class per grade level will eat outside at picnic tables or on mats. We have utilized school funds to purchase two picnic tables. WCPSS is providing one picnic table. We have several picnic tables on campus we are relocating to the front of our campus.
We will begin with our Track 2 classes eating outdoors the week of September 13. By allowing one class per grade level the opportunity to eat outdoors, we are able to further distance other students who are eating in the cafeteria.
If there are less than optimal weather conditions, all students will eat inside.
Special shout out to the PTA, Mr. Ward, Mr. Stern, Mrs. Perry, Ms. Shields, and Ms. Shipley for assistance with obtaining picnic tables and relocating them to the front our our campus. We are grateful to Mr. Hallenborg and Cornerstone Foundation Repair for your kindness with donating additional tables.

Did you know that September is Childhood Obesity Month?
From PTA Wellness Team: “The main objectives for the management of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents should be based on age, weight status and other relevant factors. Goals should be individualized for each child/adolescent and should include a family focus. Goals may include weight maintenance while the child is growing, or gradual and steady weight loss until a healthy weight is achieved, and maintenance of a healthy weight thereafter. For more information, visit the American Academy of Pediatrics–Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight website at ihcw.aap.org” (from ESMM_FactSheet_ObesityChild1120.pdf)
