A Quiet Corner

Hoping to never be deleted before bringing you a smile.

Welcome to A Quiet Corner

April marks a turning point in my life. 18 years ago, on April 21st 2001, I packed my suitcases in a numb state of being and stepped into the next chapter of my life. Numbed with ambiguity, the unknowing of what to expect and a subtle fear. I say subtle. I came to realize though, almost two decades later, that the fear, however well hidden, stretched it's creeping tentacles into every nook and cranny of my soul. Gradually and steadily, it robbed me off my deep joy and confidence. It took a great deal of effort, intention and practice to acknowledge it, make friends with it, and fiercely yet respectfully ask it to leave.

April marks a turning point. It established the practice of falling down, and getting back up stronger. When you choose to be the trailblazer, when you choose to leave everything behind and start fresh, resilience becomes one of the most beneficial muscles you have to develop. Life doesn't leave you much choice.

April will always be a turning point. The month of taking off the old mask and seeing the world with a fresh pair of eyes, a questioning mind and a receiving body.

April is a good month to renew patterns.

" Gathering Moss" by Robin Wall Kimmerer

“The rocks are beyond slow, beyond strong, and yet yielding to a soft green breath as powerful as a glacier, the mosses wearing away their surfaces, grain by grain bringing them slowly back to sand. There is an ancient conversation going on between mosses and rocks, poetry to be sure. About light and shadow and the drift of continents.”

Enneagram Series III: The Wholesome Peacemaker

“ I reviewed all the resumes you sent me. Thank you for including their Enneagram Type. Tell me more about Sara. She seems to be a Type 9. We can surely benefit having a Peacemaker in the team.” The CEO confirmed.

“ Of course! I certainly agree. She’s a calm and level headed individual. Rather quiet. She strikes you as shy until she warms up. But I assure you, shyness is not something that would hold her back. She can tackle a problem integrally, from all angles, and come up with a solution in her wholesome manner. She’s definitely a great candidate for managing the team. She can bring the team together, as long as she doesn’t fall into her unhealthy levels and become a doormat. She’s not impulsive or forceful. She can make quick decisions. As long as there’s someone in the team that would put her solutions into action.” The HR replied.

“ What do you mean by that?” She asked. Read more

Books, Poems et al

A slight change in the story column! Whenever possible I will be publishing a chapter of the novel I am working on. My heart will be filled with joy if you drop a line and let me know what you think. The story is built around resilience. I am hoping to draw a picture of how we live the stories of our parents and our generations again and again. I am hoping to deliver the story of a touching struggle and a victorious journey of awareness. Please share with a friend!

Self Observation

I was deeply touched by one of the On Being episodes this week Science of Mindlessness & Mindfulness by Ellen Langer. Loved her offering. She suggests practicing " NOTICING" vs mindfulness. How about building a self observation around noticing?

During the past few hours:

- how much did I notice my environment?

- how much did I notice any specific characteristic, feeling, change about the people who I encountered?

- how much did I notice my own mind, body and heart?

Need help developing a self observation practice? Feel free to contact me.

Nana Grants

I doubt I can find anyone who doesn't know a single mom! If you know me, you know two. Just because I am a single mom raised by a single mom! Here's the story of our latest recipients :

Catriona & Andrea

Georgia alone %40 of kids are raised in single parent homes. Education for the parents becomes really crucial in saving their generation from poverty. Most of these single parents have to drop out and are not able to take advantage of scholarships because they can't afford childcare. You can read more.

I am genuinely passionate about this cause and hope that you consider supporting single Nana Grant. You can make a difference in a generation! https://www.flipcause.com/secure/fundraiser/MzE5OTc=/15704
