If You Only Remember One Thing (April 14)

A few weeks ago I started a new book. The book is titled, Finding Gobi. As someone that enjoys getting outdoors and logging miles I can clearly connect with this story. However, the deeper I get into the book the more I see a correlation to kindness and caring, and less about actual running. And here is where the reminder hits me...
A year from now when we are reflecting on distance learning, stay-at-home orders, and Covid-19 I'm confident we WON'T be talking about all of the standards that were mastered. It will be about how we supported each other.
Here are a few things to keep in the forefront as we adjust:
Perfect is the Enemy of Good. It's safe to say this will be a bit messy and mistakes will be made. Now is the time to be unafraid to admit you don't have all the answers. Now is the time to ask others for help. Now is the time to fully embrace the mentality of, it takes a village.
Your Attitude Is Infectious. I enjoy reading both Jon Gordon and Marc & Angel. What I truly appreciate is they are constantly focusing on gratitude and living in an optimistic way. We can all take a page out of their books and allow our positive attitudes to impact the people around us.
Communicate, Communicate, Communicate. A personal challenge for me has been the "moving target" of policies. It seems that every 24 hours a policy or procedure is amended. After the first couple of times this can feel frustrating. However, we are now to the point that we should expect it. With that expectation means we must communicate the information to the people that need it. It is critical to communicate in a way that people feel safe to ask questions and if mistakes are made it will be okay.
Focus on the Connections, Focus on Relationships. If there is ONE thing we must remember it is, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." - Maya Angelou
As I near the finish of Finding Gobi, I clearly see that the story is all about connections and that is why I won't forget it.
On The Horizon...
Second, teachers please have rooms ready for summer cleaning by Wednesday, April 29th. If you need assistance in your classroom please feel free to contact paraprofessionals or literacy coaches.
Third, if you are willing to deliver packets or food please let me know by Wednesday of each week.
Fourth, on the outside of the front doors is a QR Code. All staff should download the free APP called QR Reader. Once the APP is downloaded the process takes about 1-2 minutes to complete. This is for your safety and others in the building.

- Connect with 3 people each day outside your home.
- Journal
- Read
- Being willing to try something new
I personally challenge you all to write yourself a letter. After you complete it put it in an envelope and hide it away. Then create a calendar reminder for 2 years from now. Locate the letter and read it.
