Instructional Technology Tidbits

a few notes from the ITS

Technology Integration Continuum

In the middle of October I held an afterschool PLP titled Planning for Effective Technology Integration. One of the items we looked at during that PLP was the Technology Integration Continuum. The Technology Integration Continuum is meant as a self assessment piece. It is a tool for you to use to gauge where you are in regards to technology integration. Take some time to look it over and see where you fall. Set a goal for yourself to grow in one or two of the areas. If you want some help with goal setting or reaching a goal you have set, I'm here. I would love to help!

Hour of Code

Don't forget, the Hour of Code is coming! December 7-13 is Computer Science Education Week and also time for Hour of Code. Currently there are over 126,388 events, Lynnhaven and Trantwood being two of those. I have already set up accounts on for all the students in 1-5 at Trantwood and should have Lynnhaven complete by the end of the week. For Kindergarten, we are going to start with the app Kodable. Get ready to kick start coding!

Achieve 3000 Read to Succeed Contest

We are half way through the contest period. Remember all you have to do is have your students complete at least eight multiple-choice activities between Monday, November 2nd and Friday, December 4th. In order to be eligible to win, at least 75% of your class needs to do eight or more activities during the contest period. Achieve 3000 will keep track of the progress and notify you if and when your class has qualified. Yay!

Core Clicks

The accounts for Core Clicks have finally been generated. Though it was purchased as the K-2 counterpart to Achieve 3000, accounts have been created K-5. Look for training on this digital nonfiction reading program in the next few weeks, once a roll out plan has been established in each of the buildings.

Megabyte Mondays

These are informal 15-20 minute sessions, held right after school, that will introduce programs and tools you can use in instruction. November's topics are Pixie and PicCollage, both of which can be used in a multitude of ways across all grade levels and content areas. December will be Nearpod and Share. Everyone is welcome to attend. I hope to see you there.
