Welcome to the weekly CHS9 Parent Newsletter
Week in Review
Last week was our first full week of HBL with Family Friday (Advisory) and our students did a great job of showing responsibility for our campus and expectations during HBL last week! We also conducted our voting for Student Council Officers during our Family Friday Advisory time (results below).
This week is Homecoming Week! More information below, and please join us in showing school spirit and pride by dressing up in the theme for each day!
This Friday (September 24) will mark the end of the first six week progress reporting period. This is a critical checkpoint for any of our students who participate in extracurricular activities, as students must be passing all classes at this point to remain eligible to participate. More information about the 6 week grade check and UIL Eligibility can be found below.
Yearbook photo retakes will take place on Thursday, October 7th at CHS9.
There is quite a bit of information this week, so please read through all of the updates below, and let's have an awesome Homecoming week at CHS9!

Important - UIL Six Week Grade Check
Even though we are on a nine week grading period system in CISD, the UIL requires that all students' grades are evaluated after the first six weeks of school. If students are not passing all classes at this six week grade check, they will be ineligible to participate in UIL or extracurricular activities. If a student should become ineligible, they will have an opportunity to regain eligibility at the end of the first nine week grading period. Please help ensure that your child is caught up with all assignments for all classes by the end of this week. Please see the UIL Eligibility Calendar below for more information.

CHS9 Campus Fundraiser
We are currently raising funds for our Campus Activity Fund, which supplements our campus budget and is used to provide additional support for our students and staff that cannot be covered through the local budget. This includes student and staff appreciation materials and activities, student incentives, awards and recognitions, and other items not available using the campus budget. Every campus has a campus activity fund, which plays a vital role in supporting students and staff. Since our campus is only three years old, and we started with an empty fund as a new campus, we are still working to build it up. Our normal fundraising efforts were very difficult last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic (vending machines, restaurant nights, photography commissions) and as a result, our Campus Activity Fund is struggling.
To raise funds, we are asking all families to consider donating directly to the Campus Activity Fund. This can be done through the SchoolPay link below, or we can accept cash or check at the campus. If you would like to donate, we would be grateful for any dollar amount you feel comfortable with, but we are suggesting $5 to $10 per family. Please do not feel obligated to donate, as we understand that the pandemic has had different effects on all families, and we would never wish to add additional stress. We are grateful for any funds that can be raised through this effort!
Make your student's birthday extra special with a Marquee Birthday Wish!
Parents / guardians can now purchase a birthday wish to be advertised on the CHS9 Marquee for only $25! Your student's birthday wish will be displayed on our marquee on your student's birthday. (Weekend birthdays can be scheduled on the Friday prior or the Monday following the birthday.) Purchase must be made one week prior to the date the message is to run on the marquee. Messages will be "Happy Birthday, (student's name)! Love, (____________)"
To purchase a Birthday Wish for your student, please fill out the form below. Payment can be made through SchoolPay using the link in the form.
- The counseling office is no longer accepting schedule change requests. The next level down opportunity will begin Monday, October 4th at 8:00AM and ends on Friday, October 8th at 4:15PM. Level-down forms will be available in the front office.
- Students will be participating in the Signs of Suicide (SOS) program in late October through English classes, please be on the lookout for an email with a parent letter explaining the program from Dr. Koontz in mid-October
Counselor Requests & Appointments
If you or your child would like to visit with a counselor for academic, college/career, or social/emotional needs during the year please visit the CHS9 Website to make an appointment. We are pleased to be able to offer you online booking this year! We are offering phone and zoom appointments for our virtual learners and ALL parents. For our face to face learners, we will be able to offer zoom or in person appointments for our learners upon return to CHS9. We look forward to working with our learners and parents this year.
Optional Vaccine Records
If your child has received the COVID-19 vaccine and you wish to have it noted on his or her Immunization record, please email a copy of his or her vaccination card to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If your child displays any of these symptoms, notify the nurse and do not come to campus:
-Congestions or runny nose
-Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain
-Temperature 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or greater
-Muscle or body aches
-New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline)
-New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
-New loss of taste or smell
-Shortness of breath
Student ID Badges
As part of our CISD and CHS9 Campus Security Protocols, all students must always have their school ID on a lanyard and around their neck or clipped to their shirt while on campus. Any student that is found to be without their ID badge on campus will be immediately directed to the front office to obtain a temporary ID badge. The consequences for excessive ID badge violations are as follows:
· 4th violation – Hour Block Lunch Detention
· 5th violation – Hour Block Lunch Detention X 2
· 6th violation – Friday Night Live
· 7th and subsequent violations – Assistant Principal’s Discretion
Replacement badges are available for purchase in the front office for a fee of $5.00. Your student may also purchase a replacement lanyard for an additional $1.00. Payments must be made by cash, exact change only.
*Additionally, students who are not wearing their permanent ID badge will not be allowed to leave the cafeteria during HBL to go to areas of choice. Students without an ID badge or with a temporary ID badge will be allowed to go to tutoring only.
