Showing empathy is an important skill that helps students develop friends and get along with others. To show empathy means the ability to identify with another person’s feelings or experiences. Educators can complete activities that help students understand empathy and how they can support others.

Mindfulness is the state of active and open attention on the present. It helps learners become aware of their emotions, surroundings, and decisions. In turn making learners more purposeful in their responses and actions. A great way to implement mindfulness is to practice mediation. Meditation helps calm ones body and relax. Children are encountered with different forms of stress associated with education and meditation is a great tool to alleviate some of the stress.
Research shows that integrating mindfulness practices into the classroom benefits students by reducing stress and anxiety, improving concentration, increasing engagement, and supporting the development of social skills, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills. Just a few minutes a day is all it takes to experience these benefits! Many technology tools exist to help teachers and students focus on mindfulness in the classroom.
