Kelly Leach is one of the district's new literacy trainers. She will be serving the Tribal Council feeder pattern. She is planning to spend a day here meeting with each of you to discuss how she can assist you. She prefers to meet with you individually during your planning time and possibly during class when you are teaching ELA. She is planning to be at Keller Harvel on Wednesday, September 24th.
As a Literacy trainer, Ms. Leach is here to support your needs. She and I have talked about our Writing focus and is aware of our Lucy Calkin's book study. Her first visit with our campus is to listen to you so that she can also provide you with the support that you need.

Notes from Nurse Rhonda
I’d like to talk to you about a new program called Taking the First Steps Together. The program is meant to engage you and our families at home and to urge everyone to make small improvements in our physical and mental health. From September 15th – October 9th we will discuss ways on the announcements we can improve our health by exercise, nutrition, hydration, and mental health.
The BINGO challenge card was sent home with students last MONDAY and will be used throughout the next 4 weeks at home. There is also an opportunity to win some fun prizes too!
For this week, talk to your students about the importance of NUTRITION.
Campuses will be focusing on each component for a week at a time from September 15 through October 10 which will involve various campus activities and contests.
ExerciSe (Sept. 15-19) – Focus on exercise and physical activity
NuTrition (Sept. 22-26) – 5-a-Day Nutrition Challenge (sponsored by Sodexo)
WatEr (Sept. 29-Oct. 3) – Promoting the benefits of drinking water throughout the day

PDAS & Classroom visits
If you are not eligible to waive your observation OR if you did not turn in your waiver, please be sure and stop by the office and sign up for your 45 minute PDAS observation. Everyone will begin to see Jane and I in your classrooms more often. All teachers will have a minimum of two 15 minute PDAS walkthroughs this school year.
Jane and I will also be in and out of your rooms just to get a glance of what your students are learning. These visits will be more informal and will not be related to PDAS evaluations. We plan to share with you both positive feedback and if applicable, suggestions as well.
Our focus at this time will be your "I can" statements.
- Are they posted?
- Are they "kid friendly"?
- Does the lesson being taught match the statement?
PTA Reflections Kick off
Started in 1969 by the Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson, Reflections has encouraged millions of students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Students in preschool through grade 12 may create and submit works of art in six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. The theme for the 2014 – 2015 National PTA Reflections® program is “The World Would be a Better Place if…” Only new pieces of artwork inspired by the theme may be submitted.
We will be kicking off this year's PTA reflections contest in an assembly on October 14th for 1st - 4th grade. On October 15 - 17 we will be highlighting different entry examples on the morning announcements to help encourage our students to participate in this year's contest. We need your help! We need you to identify potential students who might want to create poem/short story ahead of time and we need your help in suggesting a charismatic student who is well spoken to interview Ms. Laurie.

Employee Bond Communications Dos and Don'ts
Now that the Board of Trustees has called for a November 2014 Bond Election, Texas Education code prohibits the use of school district resources – including personnel or property – to produce or distribute political advertising in connection with the election.
This prohibition applies to any employee of the district while working in their official capacity. However, the prohibition does not apply to a communication that factually describes the situation. Factual information is that which can be objectively verifiable such as tax-rate effect, student capacity and growth rates, student performance data, or House Bill 5 information. Voting information is also considered factual, and while it is not a violation to encourage people to vote, it must be done without leading anyone to vote a certain way.
Of course, there are ways to deliver facts that are persuasive, so employees need to be mindful when communicating with text to resist the temptation to use of bold, italicize, underline, or emphasize information that could make a factual statement one that advocates. No amount of advocacy is permissible.
Employees should avoid phrases like, “This bond is the right thing to do for the children of this community,” or, “It is very important for your children and the school district that the bond election pass.”
