Romona Review

From the Principal

Greetings, Parents,

The R in ROCKS stands for respect and we have been focusing on being a respectful community at Romona all month. I am so proud of our students for the way that they have demonstrated respect to each other, the Romona staff, and our building.

As a community, I ask that we share the same kind of respect with each other. Recently, our neighbor came in to share that people are parking in front of her driveway and blocking her from getting out during dismissal. We also have cars parking along the median, stopping traffic for other families. Not only is this not building a respectful community, but our children are watching and learning from our actions. Please follow the traffic map to keep all of our children safe! Thank you.

Have a super weekend,

You should have received an email and a flyer from Stuart Rogers with information on how to order your child's school picture. If you did not, please contact Stuart Rogers at 847-864-7322.

If you would like your child to get their picture taken on October 3rd, Picture Retake Day, please sign up here. Our team will make sure that all children on this list have an opportunity to have their picture taken at school on October 3rd. Thanks!

Late Drop Off? Please come to the office!

If you are dropping your child off after the crossing guards have gone inside, please park your car and bring your child into the office. We will sign your child in and make sure they safely get to class!

Individual Student Scores on the Spring 2018 PARCC Assessments

Please be sure to check your student’s backpack on Wednesday, October 3rd. Score reports will be sent home in sealed envelopes for Grade 4 students who took the PARCC Assessment in District 39 last spring. Please note that current Grade 3 students did not take the PARCC assessments in Grade 2.

Halloween Costumes & Parades

Are your children already starting to discuss Halloween costumes like mine? For many children, it's a favorite holiday and one to which they really look forward. So the big question--and one that I'm already planning for myself--what should I wear?

As you purchase costumes, please remember that students are not allowed to bring weapons or wear a costume that "is in bad taste." Many popular characters are not appropriate developmentally for all of our students in school (such as Fortnite or Momo). Costumes need to be appropriate for school and not depict violence. Please have conversations with your children about what is appropriate. More information about classroom parties will be shared as we get closer to Halloween.

Like knowing which kids are in your child’s class? Join the PTA and keep in touch with Romona families! Your $25 PTA membership includes complimentary online and smartphone app access to the AtoZ Directory and class lists. You should have received an email from our Directory Chair inviting you to verify your most current email address and contact information, along with an invitation to join the Romona PTA. If you did not receive this email, please contact our Directory Chair at

Have YOU made an iGNITE donation yet? Romona’s iGNITE Fund pays for the enrichment activities like field trips, author visits, and more for ALL Romona students. The district does not pay for these things, Romona parents do. All students benefit, so we ask each family contribute $100 per student, however our goal is 100% participation, so please give what you can! The PTA is pleased to provide these opportunities for our students and we want them to continue! Please make your family’s donation today! Donate HERE!

Are you going through your closets and finding out which coats don’t fit anymore?! Hold onto those coats to donate to our sister school in Zion, IL. During October 22nd-26th the Romona PTA will set up boxes in the lobby to collect GENTLY used winter coats, snow pants, hats, gloves and scarves to donate. (Sorry- we are no longer able to accept boots.) Please help us help our neighbors! They greatly appreciate our generosity!
