8th Grade to 9th Grade Transition Activities
The staff at both Scottsburg Middle School and Scottsburg High School will be taking several steps over the next few weeks to help your 8th grader make the transition to high school. Listed below are the dates and descriptions of activities we have planned. We encourage parents to have follow up discussions with their student throughout the entire transition process.
November 14, Panel Discussion: Administrators, teachers and students from both High Schools that Work and New Tech will be coming to Scottsburg Middle School to talk to all 8th graders about their programs. This panel discussion will be moderated and each program will be asked a series of questions in an effort to give 8th graders some information to be thinking about their high school program choice
November 21 & 22, Tours of High School: 8th grade teams will be bussed to the high school to tour classes at both High School that Work and New Tech. 8th graders will spend time in classes as well as a brief look at all the elective choices offered at Scottsburg High School. All Electives are open to any SHS student regardless of the program (High Schools that Work or New Tech).
November 30, Spaghetti Supper 5-7pm: Parents and 8th graders are invited to a spaghetti dinner at Scottsburg High School for an evening of important information. Both High Schools that Work and New Tech will present about their programs. Freshman Course Selection sheets will be handed out and high school counselors will be on hand to answer questions.
December 14 -16 & 19-20, High School Counselor Conferences: High school counselors will go to the middle school to meet briefly with each student to go over school program and elective choices.
December 20, Course Selection Sheets Due: Completed Freshman Course Selection sheets are due to the middle school office with both student and parent signatures required for processing.
