Principal's Message
Stallion Family,
This Wednesday is our first day of school for the 20-21 school year! We are excited to begin the year working with all of our Stockton families. This past Thursday and Friday, we distributed over 900 Chromebooks and will distribute 300 more on Monday. Thank you for your patience as you drove through our "car rider" lines to pick up your child's Chromebook. As a reminder, we are a 1:1 campus, which means all of our students will receive a CISD Chromebook just by attending our school and completing the "checkout agreement form" found on our website.
This past Friday, our "Advisory" teachers reached out to their students. If you were not contacted, please call our campus tomorrow. We want to ensure we have updated phone numbers on file. On Wednesday, the first day of school, we will be contacting you again. All students must engage or be contacted on the first day of school, or they will be withdrawn from school. Please read the section below to gain understanding or re-visit Dr. Null's August 6th Facebook Live I have linked below.
As mentioned in the CISD "Back to School Schedule" (linked below), we will contact specific families inviting those children to return to school on August 19th. You will also see the "Ramp Up" practice days starting August 31st. Students have divided alphabetically during the "Ramp Up" week to attend one day that week to limit numbers in the building while students and staff practice our COVID systems.
I also want to remind our families that our newsletters can be translated into their preferred language. I have also attached the CISD Spanish update of Dr. Null's July 23rd Live when he shared insight into the COVID decisions that have been made for our District.
Parents have asked about our school supply list. With us being a 1:1 campus, our Chromebook will be the top item on our supply list. With us beginning remotely, we have not wanted families to worry about purchasing other items. When we return to campus, we will still utilize our Chromebooks and Canvas as our means to complete and turn in the majority of our assignments. Below you will find our school supply list for your review, but please remember it may change after the year begins remotely. Please do not feel obligated to purchase this entire list.
Below in our newsletter, you will see information regarding meal distribution, updating your application for free/ reduced meals, immunizations, athletic physicals, band instrument distribution, and more.
It is my honor serving you and your child as the Stockton Junior High Principal! If you have any questions or needs, please always feel free to reach out.
We look forward to starting a safe school year. And let's always remember our top priority!
Bryan Gorka
First Day of School!
On August 12th, ALL of our students will begin our campus's remote learning plan. On the 12th, our "Advisory" teachers will be calling your homes again to make contact with your child. If a student does not engage through Canvas or is NOT contacted on the 1st day of school, then they are dropped and would have to re-enroll. This practice takes place yearly. You are probably not aware of this protocol, but with us being remote makes it even more critical for you to understand. We do not want any student withdrawn due to a lack of engagement or an inability to be contacted the 1st day of school.
Stockton's " Asynchronous" Remote Learning Schedule
As you will see below, all of our teachers have 3 hours a day to work with your children. Our campus's block schedule will benefit your children. Your children take four classes a day, and they should engage with those four teachers on their set Maroon or Silver day schedule. Now, if they need any more assistance, they can always join into that teacher's online instruction or support any day. Our Maroon/ Silver Calendar is on our campus's website. I have it linked below.
- Teachers will be available to support your child 3 hours per day; those times are listed below by subject area. When the school year begins, please feel free to contact your child's teacher by phone during his/her conference time or by email at any time of the day or evening.
- Teachers will get back in touch with you as soon as they can do so. Teachers will be online via zoom 2 hours each day for online instruction and support and an additional hour to take phone calls from students and parents.
- All teachers will be on campus each day from 8:15-4:15; the entire school will have a shared lunchtime daily from 12:30 to 1:00.
- The online instruction will be recorded and posted to the teacher's Canvas courses. Students and parents can watch at their convenience.
