THANK YOU SENIORS!
Athletic Department Newsletter-Special Edition Spring 2020
Message from the Athletic Director:
My heart goes out to all our spring coaches, parents, student-athletes, and especially our seniors.
Having the chance to see firsthand the time, commitment, passion, and determination all our student-athletes put into their craft has been a privilege. I am deeply saddened by the loss of the many opportunities every season, every game, every practice, and every challenge provide. My heart breaks not being able to witness firsthand the benefits of your hard work in the off-season. There is no doubt that you have the strength of character to transform this obstacle into an opportunity.
Seniors, thank you for being exemplary representatives of your teams, our Athletic Department, and Towson High School over the last 4 years. Your hard work and leadership haven't gone unnoticed, and you certainly left this program in better shape than you found it. This senior class will always be remembered for their kindness, selflessness, and service. You have given so much of your time and yourself to making this community a better place. We are lucky to have such generous leaders. Take that with you wherever you go. Continue to give and to be kind, the world needs it now and needs you. I wish all of you nothing but the best as you start a new journey in life.
To the parents: Thank you for your cheers, your support, your sacrifice, your time and for letting me be a part of your child's time here at Towson High School. It has been an honor.
Always remember.........once a General, always a General!

Baseball
Always a General
All six of these young men were part of a Sectional Champion last year, and were selected to be captains for the 2020 season. They were part of a team that hosted a Regional Final. Each was primed to be a starter and were eager to build on a great Junior year. All six had already created a legacy with Towson Baseball. That mission was already accomplished.
Austin Turner- Austin was going to play every day. Just never in the same place twice in a row. He was going to start in the outfield and start at 3rd base. And finally, start on the mound. But he was always going to start. The ball jumps off his bat. Throw in that he is one of the fastest players on the team, and there is almost nothing Austin can’t do. Always willing to be coached, he is also one of the most mature players I have ever been around.
Domenic Brooks – a solid defender at 2nd base and a steady presence for the Generals. A very good baserunner that was often put in to pinch run. He would start at first base and immediately steal second base and put himself in scoring position. He is a line drive hitting machine. As a Junior he was put in against Eastern Tech, tie game, runner on 3rd, 1 out, in the bottom of the 7th inning. Domenic executed a perfect suicide squeeze to seal a walk off win. A quiet young man, but his presence was always felt. He was a great example to younger players on how to go about your business.
Logan Devaney- a returning Varsity player to the outfield. Logan is an extremely athletic ballplayer that was going to be in the middle of the Towson lineup. The coaching staff was going to ask a lot of Logan and his response would always come with a smile. He is coachable, hardworking, and versatile.
Josh Edwards- a left-handed pitcher and first baseman, Josh was a reliable starter for the pitching staff and the starting 1st baseman. He has such a quiet tenacity; most don’t realize what a great competitor he is. Whether it was the big hit at Hereford, or a save on the mound in the Sectional Final against Franklin, Josh was at the center of Towson’s best moments.
Doyle McNew- our catcher, our everyday leader. He was the center of our program. Everything good with our team flowed out from Doyle. A solid catcher and dangerous with the bat, his first at-bat of the 2020 Spring was a double off the wall at Calvert Hall. Hardworking and dedicated. This coaching staff will use Doyle as an example of what we expect from our ballplayers.
Henry Pleszkoch- a right-handed pitcher and the starting 3rd baseman. Whatever throw he was asked to make, Henry did so with uncanny accuracy. His right arm is a consistent weapon. As a Junior, he was asked to pitch in tight spots. He never blinked. The coaching staff approached this season with great confidence. Much of that confidence and eagerness is because we were going to hand Henry the ball each week and tell him to go to the mound and win the game. Being easy going and hard nosed is a rare combination that Henry has.
Softball
Sydney Martin - Sydney has been a part of the Varsity Softball team since her Freshman year here at Towson High School. Sydney was a Captain on this year’s team. To say she has been a vital part of this program is an understatement. Sydney has not only established herself a great pitcher, getting better each year and winning critical games like her Junior year versus Dulaney (which helped propel the team into the County Championship game), but also is one of the toughest athletes you will find. Her physical toughness is very evident, continuously playing through serious knee issues and still being able to perform at a high level, but her mental toughness where she shows her strength to not allow her physical issues to set her back is remarkable. Day in and day out, practice or games, she grinds it out. She is a leader that her teammates love and support, and on “The Hill” her mental toughness helps her beat the opponent no matter who they are. Thank you, Sydney for an incredible four years of commitment to the Towson Generals Softball program. We love you and are proud of you and know you will do many great things as you move on to the next chapter of your life. Don’t forget…STAY HUNGRY!
Taylor Brumagin - aka “T” has been a part of the Varsity Softball team since her Freshman year here at Towson High School. There aren’t enough words on the page to explain how important of a player and leader Taylor has been throughout her time on this team. A Captain both last year and this year, Taylor is a player that any coach would be excited to have. She is one of the most supportive teammates you will find, understanding the importance of great team chemistry and putting it to use by always being there for her teammates. She is a leader both by example and vocally. She gives 110% effort in every aspect of the game, both in practices and games from carrying equipment to diving plays in the infield (whether in practice or games!). She is a Coach by nature, often seen helping her teammates with various skills and drills whenever she has a moment to do so. When Taylor speaks, everyone around listens. These qualities are what made Taylor a very successful player in our program for four years and will carry with her moving forward in her future endeavors. Thank you, Taylor for an incredible four years of commitment to the Towson Generals Softball program. We love you and are proud of you and know you will do many great things as you move on to the next chapter of your life. Don’t forget…STAY HUNGRY!
Boys Lacrosse
Jadyn Castillo - A Senior Midfielder has been a three-year varsity letterman. Jadyn contributed 26 points on 9 goals, 17 assists, 13 groundballs, and 4 caused turnovers during his junior season helping to lead the Generals to a regional title and into the state semifinals. During his sophomore campaign, Jadyn scored a goal, with 3 assists, 10 groundballs, and three caused turnovers. As a senior, Jadyn was selected as team captain by his peers and coaches, and was a fixture on the first midfield unit. "Jadyn loved being a General. He embraced the strong Towson High tradition. He has the size, speed, and athleticism to be a very good college midfielder. He possesses the drive and determination to be the very best that he can be." Jadyn is continuing as a student-athlete at CCBC-Essex in the fall.
Jack Carter - A senior Attackman/Midfielder has been a three-year varsity letterman. As a junior, Jack contributed 11 points on 5 goals, 6 assists, 20 groundballs, and 11 caused turnovers, helping to lead the Generals to a regional title and into the state semifinals. During his sophomore season, Jack scored a goal, added an assist, scooped up 10 groundballs, and forced 5 turnovers. As a senior, Jack was selected as a team captain by his peers and coaches, and was transitioning from midfield to a starting role as an attackman. "Jack is an extremely 'coachable' young man who has a tremendous work ethic, and has a strong passion for the game. He has good size, durability, and athleticism which will transfer well at the next level." Jack will continue as a student-athlete at Randolph Macon College in the fall.
Ryan Tyler - A senior Defenseman/Long-stick midfielder who has been a three-year varsity letterman. Ryan added great depth to a strong Generals defense that won a regional title and a berth in the state semifinals in 2019. Over the course of his career on the varsity, Ryan scooped up 35 groundballs, doled out 2 assists, and forced 17 turnovers. As a senior, Ryan will help to lead a young Generals defense. "Ryan has tremendous speed and a high motor on the field. He is a grinder, and works hard to pick the ball up off the ground and push it up the field. He is a student of the game and possesses a tremendous work ethic." Ryan is hopeful to pursue his degree as a student-athlete at Frostburg State University in the fall.
Charlie Lewandowski - A senior attackman who joined the Generals as a junior late last spring. As a senior, Charlie will add depth to the left-handed attack position. "Charlie has been a fun kid to coach. He likes to play the game and is a good teammate. He was asked to switch to the attack position this spring and has worked hard to develop his game. Charlie has a knack for picking up contested ground balls and finding the open man, or putting the ball in the net." Charlie would be a great kid to have on any team if he chooses to play on the collegiate/club level.
Alex Taylor - A senior defenseman who played two years on the Generals JV squad. During his junior season, Alex scooped up 10 groundballs and caused 5 turnovers. As a senior, he will add depth to a strong, but young defensive corps this spring. "Alex is a great teammate and works hard on the field to develop his game as a defenseman. He has good speed and plays solid position defense." Alex would be a great teammate if he chooses to play on the collegiate/club level.
Brandon Ekwanazu - A senior defenseman who played on the Generals JV squad in his first season as a sophomore before making the varsity in just his second season of playing during his junior year. Last year he caused 2 turnovers and scooped up 4 groundballs. As a senior, Brandon will add depth to a strong, but young defensive unit this spring. "Brandon is a stoic young man and a good teammate. He has good size, speed, and athleticism. Although he has been playing the game for a short time, he is learning and developing good defensive habits. It was cool to see him contribute and learn every day on the field." Brandon would be a great kid to have on any team if he chooses to play on the collegiate/club level.
Cheerleading
To my 2020 THS Cheerleading Seniors!
It has been a beautiful road on the mat with all of you! During the past three years, I have had the honor of watching all four of you, grow into amazing cheerleaders and leaders. I am so proud of the dedication and perseverance each of you have shown over the years. All of you have left your mark on the team in a very special way. From starting out with thigh stands to doing full one- legged stunts with 3 positions, creating some of the best stomp and shake cheers that are crowd favorites, creating dances that the crowd absolutely loves, and working hard on our competition routines which helped us move up the ranks in the county champions! You all have left your mark for years to come. No matter where life takes you, always remember these three things: 1. You don’t have to be great to start, you have to start to be great. 2. NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF, Go for it! 3. Always leave everything on the mat! Coach A and I will miss each of you greatly! We are only a call away.
– Coach Jacobs
Kojo Baidoo - I will be attending Princeton University in the fall and I plan on joining the cheer team! I would like to thank my teammates and my coaches for helping me become a better leader/role model and giving me an unforgettable introduction to a sport I hope to be involved with some way for a long time. To my teammates who are graduating with me, I love you so much and I’m so proud of what we accomplished together, and for my teammates who will continue cheering at Towson for the rest of their high school careers, please know that you’re all capable of great things and I can’t wait to see how you blossom in the future!
Selina Carrasquillo - I will be attending the Aspen Beauty Academy and trying out to be a Baltimore Ravens Cheerleader. I would like to thank my team and my coaches for making me fall in love with a sport and making me feel accepted into it.
Shannon Cofield - I’ll be be attending Aspen Beauty Academy to become an Entrepreneur in beauty! Unfortunately, I won’t be continuing cheerleading there, but would love to try out for a professional team in the future. A message I would like to say to my team is thanks for teaching me leadership and teamwork. Y’all made my last 3 years a blast! I’ll miss everyone!
Kayla Tingley - Catholic University -will be cheering -I’d like to thank my stunt group, coaches, and team for making me the strongest person I can be. Continue to push yourselves, take care of our team, and fall in love with cheer the same way I did.
Girls Lacrosse
The class of 2020 was poised to lead a young, talented girls lacrosse team deep into the playoffs. They cultivated their leadership over many years and many starts and the loss of their opportunity to shine is deeply heart breaking. They saw many highs and lows over the last four years, but we will never forget the little moments of fun and teamwork that made this class so special.
Anna Corona - A four year starter Anna Corona has grown her game each season. This year she was expected to have her most impactful season yet. A true two way midfielder, Anna’s endurance and intensity are unmatched. She never stops working and always gives 110%, revealing herself to be a strong leader by example. She is someone the coaches can always trust to remember the game plan and put the team before herself always. And she always plays the game with a smile. Anna will continue her lacrosse career at Catholic University where she will undoubtedly find success.
Caelinn Satterfield - A four year varsity player, Caelinn began her varsity career playing alongside her sister Saraid on the defensive line. She unfortunately suffered an ACL tear that caused her to miss her sophomore season. However, in true Satterfield fashion, she put her mind to her recovery and came back stronger than she was before and re-earned her starting spot as a junior. This year the coaches intended to lean on her more to help mentor new starting defenders after the loss of several in the 2019 class. Caelinn’s quiet intensity would have shown the way a real General demonstrates grit and determination. She will play lacrosse at Lynchburg next year.
Sofia Grose - A four year varsity attacker Sofia is one of the smartest players, both on the field and off, to come through the program. Sofia could always be counted on to execute the game plan and to know what to do on and off ball. She is someone her teammates look up to to learn from and motivate them to get better, as she routinely also lead the team on run tests. She would do whatever was asked of her out on the field, play any position, and do so at a high level. We will miss how reliable she is.
Sofie Sorteberg - A four year varsity attacker Sofie Sorteberg can best be described as fearless. Her fast feet and quick dodges have made her into one of the biggest threats out on the field and there is no one she is scared of going against. In fact, most goalies are afraid of her notoriously wicked shot that could burn a hole through the net. Sofie is quick with a smile and her easy going attitude made her a delight to coach and a wonderful teammate. We will certainly miss her drive and experience next year.
Julia Buttarrazzi - Julia would have been a two year starting varsity defender who would have played a huge vocal role for the defense this spring. She is a tenacious defender who is not afraid of any match up, and the coaches were very excited to see what she was able to do this spring and to watch her play a larger leadership role. Julia is also a natural talker and the coaches loved listening to her joke around with her teammates and keep the mood light. She would have won the vote for player we would most want to hear mic’d up.
Girls lacrosse would also like to recognize senior and four year manager Ligia Mardari. Ligia is a reliable and trustworthy student of the game who was a real pleasure to have as a dedicated manager for the past four years. We appreciate her dedication to the team and wish her well next year!
Tennis
To Towson’s amazing tennis seniors,
How fast four years fly by and with it three fabulous tennis seasons. It was to be a coach’s dream season . . . that is, the season that never happened. There is only one way to describe this year for our seniors: They got hosed! Lucky for their opponents!
Towson’s four seniors: Captains Sean Casey and Anna Frey along with Eric Derr and Maria Dildine, all 4-year varsity players, will move on next year and enlighten their respective college campuses far beyond competing on the tennis courts. We salute the 2020 tennis seniors. You will all be missed!
-Coach Miller
Eric Derr - has been a staple for Varsity Tennis for the past 4 years. Big serve, quick hands and octopus-like arms make for a nightmare for Eric’s opponents. Eric is a fierce competitor and a big reason the Generals posted a 9 – 3 record last year. Franklin Indians can breathe a sigh of relief!
Maria Dildine - is an excellent versatile doubles player that can compete with anyone. Last year, Maria fought her way into the line-up and posted a 5 – 2 overall record, playing both girls’ doubles and mixed doubles. She was among our “most improved” players last year and was ready to “bring it” this season. Lucky for the Dulaney Lions!
Sean Casey - earned his way into the “Top Players to Watch in 2020,” according to Coach Miller. Sean was a team player that put the Generals on the map last year, helping our team to place 3rd in both the County and Regional tournaments. He is a team captain and was preparing to take on the county elites at #1 singles. Speed combined with finesse are what make Sean a handful for any opponent. Hereford Bulls try to run with Sean!
Anna Frey - is a fearless competitor that leads by example. Unanimously voted to team captain by Coach Miller, Anna has been a staple for the Generals these past 4 years. Last year, Anna finished in 3rd place in Singles #1 in the County tournament. She went on to win the Regional tournament in mixed doubles with Philip Guasa, being our only team to make it to the States. Anna brings her A-game everywhere she goes. Catonsville Comets don’t have to cry now!
