Athens
The Athenians were prosperous and intelligent people. They were the first people to have a democracy. Some of their greatest thinkers consisted of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
The Downfall and Uprise of Greece
In the mid-300s B.C.E. weakened the Greek city-states. They were then invaded by Philip the Second of Macedonia, who then conquered Greece. After his conquest Greek trade boomed, the Greek's culture mixed with Egyptian and Pursian, and science advanced.
The Roman Empire
Rome dominated power on the Italian Peninsula. Rome began as monarchy but changed to a republic and 509 B.C.E. One of the governments achievements was the development of a code of laws written on bronze tablets known as the Twelve Tables. These laws stated all free citizens the right to be treated equally. The first emporer is of Rome was Augustus who earned the position in 27 B.C.E.
