A robust vocabulary improves all areas of communication — listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Vocabulary growth is directly related to school achievement. Go to this link for a list of ways you can grow your child’s vocabulary every day in little ways. In addition, these seven games are fun ways to increase vocabulary skills:
- Bananagrams
- Quiddler
- Scrabble
- Boggle
- Word on the Street
- Pairs in Pears
- Dabble

Second Steps
We will continue to learn skills for being calm, focused learners for the next few weeks. Today, Unit A students worked on learning to handle disappointment. Unit B and Unit C students learned to train their ‘Attention Muscle’. Key parts of today’s lessons are:
- When you don’t get what you want, this can lead to strong feelings of disappointment which make you feel sad and angry. Calming-down strategies help us manage these feelings.
- Being able to focus on ourselves during moments of anger, frustration, and stress allow us to manage these feelings and continue to learn and participate in school.
