Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga

Matt's Message
Kia Ora Whānau
The last couple of weeks have been busy here at school for both tamariki and staff.
We were excited to host the first of our Principal Awards Assemblies for the Tūhua team and recognise those tamariki, who in the eyes of their teachers have displayed the values of Care-Manaakitanga, Commitment - Kia Manawanui, Courage-Kia Maia and being Connected-Whanaungatanga. It was really nice to celebrate the assembly alongside Whānau too.
We were proud that 52 Mōtītī tamariki that represented our school at the Amazing Race event at Te Puna Quarry last Friday. A big thanks to the parents that supported this event with transport and to Whaea Hannah and Whaea Erin for their support too.
This week we have been fortunate to have our expert partners from writers tool box in school working with and alongside our staff on their writing professional learning and development. It has been an awesome couple of days with a number of our teachers being recognised for their proficiency in the teaching of their writing. This is not only positive for our teachers but for your children who are being taught by quality practitioners. We will look forward to sharing more about our writing process and your childrens progress in writing in our mid year reports.
Possible Teacher Industrial Action
I would like to inform you that teachers across the country have rejected their third offer from the Government. This will likely lead to further industrial action. While there are no dates or specifics around this at the moment, I like to keep you informed as a community of what is on the horizon . Once we know more we will let you know asap.
Cross Country This Friday
The weather is looking a little average for Friday. We will make a call on if we proceed with the event as early as we see fit. We will post this on Facebook, Seesaw and send out a very brief email. Please keep an eye on these platforms for information.
Ngā mihi
Matt
Uniform Feedback
I would like to thank the 67 people who responded to our uniform survey over the last couple of weeks. This feedback has been really valuable for the uniform committee that includes, staff, board members and also members of our parent community.
Please see below the summary of your combined responses.

A request from Staff
While we know you as parents want to congratulate your child for finishing the Cross Country as you are so proud of them, we ask that you PLEASE DO NOT GO INTO THE FINISH CHUTE. Please wait for your children to exit that area.
This will ensure that we get all of the details correct, especially for the all important Pou Points!
As Friday is a Pou Shirt day normally, tamariki will be already in their Pou shirts for racing.
However, if the cross country is postponed on Friday to Tuesday the following week, Tamariki will wear their Pou Shirts on Tuesday for the Cross Country.
Kiwican News
This term in Kiwican the theme is Integrity/Pono. The tamariki have been learning that this means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. During the past three weeks we have been focussing on the topic of Honesty/Whakapono and the importance of telling the truth even when it is not always the easiest option. We have had lots of fun with new energiser games and activities to help us learn about this.
