ADMINISTRATORS CORNER
We had a fun and busy week to close out 2018. Some sixth graders visited a museum, the Geography Bee got underway, we enjoyed a comfortable pajama day, and rang out the year with the annual Student versus Staff basketball game! Spirits were high as we dismissed early today and we truly hope those positive feelings translate into fun, healthy, safe, and enjoyable winter breaks. Speaking of enjoyable... please enjoy this video of our BMS Band performing during half-time at today's game!

Inclusion & Diversity
Bellingham Memorial School has partnered with the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office in which Eileen Kneeland will present to our entire student body on January 23, 2019. She will be talking, along with our guidance staff, to students about tolerance, acceptance, and anti-bullying.
BMS' guidance department is implementing curriculum with sixth and seventh grade students during their health classes that focuses on healthy interactions that lead to positive outcomes.
BMS' guidance department is implementing curriculum with the fourth grade students in the spring. This Second Step Curriculum focuses on anti-bullying.
We appreciate the ongoing conversations you have with your children about inclusion and diversity, and look forward to continuing them as a school community.

ADMINISTRATORS CORNER
This week closed out our food and coat drive, and we appreciate all the families who made a donation! We were able to help several families in our own community to have a happy and warm holiday season. We ended our week with an Ugly Sweater Celebration, that will be followed up with a holiday pajama day on December 20. We are integrating a little laughter into our final days of school before Winter Break!

NURSES NEWS
I have received word that several students in our building have been diagnosed with the flu.
The most common symptoms of flu are fever, cough, and sore throat. Symptoms can also include body aches, headache, chills, runny nose and feeling very tired. Some people, especially young children, also have diarrhea and vomiting. Symptoms last from a few days to up to a week or more. For more detailed information, please go to https://www.mass.gov/service-details/flu-information-for-the-general-public.
Per district policy, PLEASE keep your child home if they have a fever (100.degrees or more), diarrhea or vomiting , for 24 hours after the fever, diarrhea or vomiting is gone WITHOUT medication. Please use your best judgement when sending your student to school with a bad cough or runny nose. The whole point of being in school is for your student to learn. If they are feeling miserable they cannot learn nor can they get better.
Additionally, we have reports of students in several classrooms being treated for head lice. Please check your students' heads on a regular basis. All students should refrain from sharing hair care accessories (brushes, combs, clips, bands etc.) and students with long hair should keep it braided or up to minimize any spread. Student who have been treated for a lice infestation should stop at the nurses office before returning to class for a confidential head check. Typically, a notice will be sent home to the classes, or teams, depending on the grade that the student is in. I will NEVER reveal the student's identity. Per district policy, students with live lice will be sent home immediately; those with a few treated, leftover nits will be allowed to stay in school but I will call home to advise. As with most sensitive issues, it is up to the student (family) to maintain confidentiality.
As always if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 508-883-2248.

As a building, we are still collecting toys and gently worn coats and winter gear to help our neighbors in need through December 14. We are appreciative of everyone who has already donated, and look forward to ending our collections with boxes full of things to share next Friday!
