St Francis of Assisi News
Term 3 - Issue 12 27th August 2020
Prayer - Canticle of the Creatures. Written by St Francis of Assisi
Most High, all-powerful, good Lord,
Yours are the praises, the glory, and the honour, and all blessing.
To You alone, Most High, do they belong,
and no human is worthy to mention Your name.
Praised be You, my Lord, with all Your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
Who is the day and through whom You give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour;
and bears a likeness of You, Most High One.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars,
in heaven You formed them clear and precious and beautiful.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind,
and through the air, cloudy and serene, and every kind of weather,
through whom You give sustenance to Your creatures.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water,
who is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom You light the night,
and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.
Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth,
who sustains and governs us,
and who produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs.
Praised be You, my Lord, through those who give pardon for Your
love, and bear infirmity and tribulation.
Blessed are those who endure in peace
for by You, Most High, shall they be crowned.
Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Bodily Death,
from whom no one living can escape.
Woe to those who die in mortal sin.
Blessed are those whom death will find in Your most holy will,
for the second death shall do them no harm.
Praise and bless my Lord and give Him thanks
and serve Him with great humility.
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Last Friday, whilst students and families were enjoying the beginning of a 4-day weekend, the staff examined the encyclical Laudato Si with Dr Nathan Leber from Caritas. This paper written by Pope Francis, connects strongly with our charism of Francis of Assisi where we are called to nurture and build our connection with creation. The topic of sustainability and our role in promoting this within our community was explored through head and heart. At the end of this year, the staff will undertake further exploration of the encyclical with a focus on driving sustainability within our school under the guidance of Saint Francis of Assisi.
COVID Restrictions and Cleaning
With a number of school events coming up, we will need to adhere to the health department guidelines in Phase 4. Please take note of the following:
- 2 square meter allowance indoors - this will restrict the number of adults we may have in the hall due to the area taken up by the children (children are exempt from this).
- Maintaining 1.5m physical distancing when indoors or outdoors.
- Use of the hand sanitiser stations outside the hall entrances and at outdoor events.
As a result of these restrictions, the following events will be affected:
- Merit Assembly Fri 28/8 - maximum of 2 adults per child.
- Father's Day Breakfast Fri 4/9- maximum of 100 adults in the hall, the rest will be outdoors
- Year 1 Assembly Fri 4/9 - maximum of 2 parents + 2 grandparents per child.
- Athletics Carnival Fri 11/9 - as this is outdoors, the 2 square meter rule does not apply, therefore we are not restricted in numbers. However, 1.5m physical distancing needs to be adhered to.
African Choir at Mass
Thank you to those parents who performed at a recent mass at St Andrew's as part of the African Choir. It truely was an amazing experience to listen to and their humility in receiving praise was commendable.
Code of Conduct Statements 11 & 12
Every year, we remind parents of our Code of Conduct statements as being part of the St Francis of Assisi CPS community. Parents, staff and students agree to our Code of Conduct document which outlines 12 statements that govern our behaviour and conduct in a Catholic school as part of the larger Child Safety Framework for Catholic Education. This week, we review Statements 11 and 12.
Statement 11: You conduct yourself in accordance with laws, agreements, policies and standards relevant to your relationship with the school community.
- Each member of the school community must notify any breach of the agreement between another member and the school, or school policies and agreements. The role of the ‘bystander’ in keeping students safe is fundamental and each member of the school community must be clear that they do not have discretion as to whether to notify of any breaches. They are not alleging harm to a student or pre-judging what they observed.
Statement 12: You respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community.
- You treat each parent, staff member and child with respect through your words and actions. The diversity of our community is embraced and respected regardless of religion, race, gender or any other differences.
Farewell to the Christie Family
Tomorrow, we say farewell to Lukas and Jackson Christie. The boys will be relocating over east to the chilly city of Canberra. We wish the whole family well in their travels and know St Francis of Assisi will be a guiding presence in their journey.

Well Being Week - Sep 7-11th
Wellbeing – the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy.
A focus on wellbeing aims for all students to be healthy, happy, successful and productive individuals who are active and positive contributors to the school and society in which they live.
Saint Francis of Assisi will celebrate Wellbeing Week in Week 8, 7th-11th September. This week will provide opportunities for our students to explore their overall awareness for the wide-ranging aspects of wellbeing, including social, physical, emotional, community and environmental wellbeing. The students will engage in lessons and activities that explore the 5 Ways to Wellbeing;
- Connect
- Get Active
- Be Mindful
- Keep Learning
- Give to Others
The students can wear their sport uniform each day for this week and there will be no homework for the week. This is an opportunity for you to relax and connect as a family. Please see the below timetable for a list of events and activities that will take place each day of the week. A Newsletter will be sent home detailing each day.
Next Sunday 6th September marks Father's Day. Whether you are a father, step-father, father figure or mother playing both roles, we wish you all a wonderful day celebrating all that is great about being a parent!
Have a great fortnight ahead.
Best wishes

Please ensure you read through the information so you are aware of information regarding where to sit, Covid safe regulations and the philosophy of our sports carnival. This is a compulsory school day and event for all children in PP-year 6 to end our wellbeing week with some fun and excitement, if your child will not be at the carnival please inform the class teacher prior to the day for organisational logistics.
