A BIG thank you to Mrs. Snowden for her work during the Ice Skating Unit and the Ice Skating Classic. The students had a great time! Thank you also to the parents, teachers and paras that volunteered to tie skates during the week. Thanks to our office staff for coordinating buses – and to our PTA for tying skates, handing out ribbons, and helping serve students hot cocoa! It takes a village
Kindness Week
Kindness Week is February 10th-14th. It is a week filled with fun activities and a special focus on kind action we can do for others and the importance of being kind all of the time. The schedule is listed below:

Wednesday 2/12—“Husky pride day” At CBH we are proud to be kind! Students and staff can wear their husky gear or wear CBH Husky colors (teal, black and white)!
Thursday 2/13 ---“Pajama Thursday” We should be kind to others day and night! Students and staff can wear their pajamas to school!
Friday 2/14-- Together we can make our school a culture of kindness! All students can wear red, pink or white to show their kind spirit!
Winter Gear
Parents, please be sure to have your child prepared for winter weather. Unfortunately, we have several students that come to school without hats, boots, and mittens. Please help your child be ready for cold weather recess. They may want a change of clothes/shoes if theirs get wet. Students do need tennis shoes for gym classes. If you need assistance with items, please contact Mrs. Jorgenson at either campus.
Birthday Invitation Reminders
Please see the information about birthday invitations from the Elementary Student Handbook.
If your child is going to bring invitations to school for a party at home, all the children in the class must be invited. If you aren't inviting all the children in the class, do not bring the invitations to school; mail or hand-deliver the invitations.
February/March Parent/Teacher Conferences
The second round of conferences are just around the corner….
Tuesday, February 25th from 3:00-6:40 PM
Thursday, February 27th from 3:00-6:40 PM
Monday, March 2nd from 3:00-6:40 PM
The conferences offer a wonderful opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and to plan for the future growth of each child. They also provide the chance to discuss any teacher or parent concerns. We look forward to this opportunity to continue working in partnership with you to enhance the education of our students!
Congratulations Mrs. Eide!
Mrs. Eide was the first recipient of the Legacy Flame Award through MSUM. Please see the info. below about the award.
Legacy Flame Award
Description: An award given to an Art Educator who has left a lasting legacy on the visual arts teaching profession through mentoring and leadership. A career educator would be recognized for being unselfish in the giving of their time, expertise and advice while preparing undergraduate teaching candidates from MSUM through observations, practicum placements, and student teaching. This educator would have shown a distinction in leadership and community activity as well as their on-going collaboration with both the School of Teaching and Learning and the School of Art.
Rationale: To recognize our devoted school partners who don't often get thanked for their unheralded but ongoing dedication to carrying on the noble art of teaching. This award recognizes a mentor’s commitment and lasting legacy in the field of teaching. This award is a small token to demonstrate how much MSUM values our dedicated teaching partners.
Who: Given jointly by the School of Art AND the School of Education (Chairs or Deans) as well as the Principal of the teachers building and other representatives from the School District as appropriate (such as Curriculum Coordinators, Superintendents or School Board Members).

2020 Recipient: Sharon Eide
Background: Sharon is the long-time FPS Visual Art Coordinator who may be nearing retirement. She is a tireless art advocate and has done a terrific job with our teaching candidates over the years. She is a dedicated, unselfish role model for other teachers.
February Counselor’s Corner
In February guidance lessons will focus on various social and emotional skills: emotion management, conflict resolution and peer pressure:
In kindergarten, students will learn strategies to help them when they have to wait for something or someone.
In first grade, students will learn the four steps in the Second Step problem-solving system: Say the problem out loud, think of solutions, explore the consequences to those solutions, and pick the best solution.
In second grade, students will learn various conflict resolution strategies such as taking turns, compromising, and using I messages.
In third grade, students will review and continue to sharpen their conflict resolution strategies such as taking turns, compromising, and using “I messages”.
In fourth grade, students will demonstrate how to use strategies to help them calm down if they are upset and also how anger and worry can affect the body.
In fifth grade, students will learn the power of peer pressure and how to stand firm in their own values.
Please contact me if you have any questions or need additional information!
