CMMS School Wide Positive Behavior
Our School Wide Positive Behavior teams have been working hard to provide opportunities for CMMS students to participate in activities to celebrate their success in following our school wide expectations: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Kind. We spent the first week in January reviewing these expectations with our students, and celebrating positive behavior with a Snoball Dance! Our next School Wide Reward event will be Trenchball! See details and information below.
CMMS Team/Department Updates & Information
Introducing new additions to the CMMS Staff:
CMMS Art Display
All students in Mrs.Wilson's 1st semester classes, 7th grade, blocks 1-4, were given the opportunity to draw and paint on a canvas of various sizes to start the new year in January. Some students also chose to draw on paper, also. A few students worked on canvas paintings collaboratively. Many students enjoyed working with acrylic paints and acrylic paint pens Mrs.Wilson brought in to the classroom from her home art studio.
The students worked very hard to create a final artwork to end the semester of learning in Art class with Mrs.Wilson. Of the 90 students in Mrs.Wilson's classes during first semester, 80 students' works were represented in this community art show.
Students were given the freedom of subject matter and were encouraged to use processes and methods learned over the semester in art class. The works were displayed during most of the month of January, and a closing reception was held from 5-7pm on Friday, January 27th, where Mrs.Wilson was available to greet family and friends. The art show was a wonderful way to highlight her students hard work in art classes.
Federal Programs
February Federal Programs Updates
All elementary schools will conduct full school assessment screenings of math and reading progress in January. Our intervention teams use this information to update WIN groups (What I Need), and from what we are seeing so far, our students are growing rapidly!
On December 6th, elementary schools will send home progress reports to keep families updated on student progress. All families in all schools should have received Quarter 1 report cards in November. If you did not receive the report card for Quarter 1, please contact your child's school secretary.
At all school levels, we use Title IV federal funds to purchase incentives for PBIS (our positive school-wide behavior supports) rewards, and we emphasize the goal of following school rules in all schools.

Family Connections
#KeystoneCares: February is for Family
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
The faculty and staff of KCSD encourage parents to send their student to school everyday in order to achieve academic success!
If your student is absent, all parent excuses or medical excuses must be received by the office within 3 days after they return. Excuses can be emailed to: cmmsattendance@kcsd.k12.pa.us
If you are concerned about your student's attendance, please reach out to your student's school counselor.
Counseling Connection
SAP
If you are concerned about a student for any reason, you can make a SAP referral. The SAP referral can potentially lead to any needed services and/or supports the student may need to be successful.
Family Focused February
Family and school partnerships are essential for helping students achieve at their maximum potential and while parent and community involvement has always been a cornerstone of public schools, greater recognition and support of these collaborative efforts is needed. CMMS School Counseling. (MAKE SURE YOUR RESPECTIVE SCHOOL INFORMATION IS HERE)
During middle school, students experience changes, such as transitioning into adolescence, balancing multiple classes/assignments, dealing with peer pressure, developing new friendships, caring about what others think/fitting in and/or personal situations. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) may contact one of our counselors with any questions or concerns they may have regarding their student's academic, career, behavior and/or socioemotional well-being.
A counselor is someone to talk to, who will listen without judgment. A school counselor can assist in short-term counseling and if needed arrange long-term counseling and the SAP (Student Assistance Program) and Tier II support. Counselors can teach students tools to improve and cope with different situations, especially because sometimes it's hard to figure out where to start. Students may be want to see a counselor for the following reasons:
- Want to share an experience/feelings
- Feel depressed and/or lonely
- Have thoughts of self-harm
- Feel stressed and/or anxious
- Feel angry and/or frustrated
- Want to improve grade(s)
- Talk about college/careers
- Relationship/peer issues/conflicts
- Personal issues (divorce/separation, loss of a loved one, etc.)
To learn more or to schedule a meeting, please contact your student's school counselor.
