For the fourth year, Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee and the AZ529 Education Savings Plan hosted an essay contest for kids. The 2023 Essay Writing Contest invited Arizona 5th and 6th graders to submit essays explaining their dream job and the steps they’ll take to reach it. Winners received $529 toward an AZ529 Education Savings Plan to fund their future educational aspirations.
Congratulations to Kash Bronson for being selected as a winner of the AZ529 Essay Writing Contest! Thank you to Ms. Neely, our 6th Grade Writing Teacher, who encouraged all her students to participate in this writing contest.
We Have a New Music Teacher!
I am excited to share with you that our new music teacher started Monday, October 30th. Her name is Natalie Vigil. Here is a brief introduction from her:
Greetings, my name is Natalie Vigil and I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to be the long term substitute music teacher here at Desert Trails Elementary School. I have two students at Desert Trails. I was involved in music throughout my own schooling. I participated in high school musicals and my senior year I was the lead in Hello Dolly. I studied vocal music in college and performed in the world premiere Opera Nosferato. After receiving my associate's degree in vocal performance, I changed my career path and studied occupational therapy. I am looking forward to returning to music. I understand that music is a very important part of a child's development and growth. I am very excited to teach your students and share something I love.
Pick Up and Drop Off
Hawk Families, please be sure you are following the school's pick up and drop off procedures. If you drive your students to school, please be sure to drop them off at the car lane. Do not park in the parking lot and walk your students to the playground gate. Parking spots need to be available for staff. Also, please do not drop students off in the fire lane and have them enter through the front lobby.
At pick up and drop off, handicap spots can only be used by people who have handicap licenses. If you are driving to pick up your students, please use the car lane. It is not safe for students to run through the parking lot to get in cars driving in the parking lot.
12 News Shout Outs to Desert Trails
Every Friday, Channel 12 News likes to do a 12News Shout Out to spread good things about people in the Arizona community. Some of our teachers have been included in some of these shout outs by parents in our community. Let's celebrate ALL the fabulous staff members at Desert Trails by submitting shout outs to Channel 12 News! Shout outs can also include highlighting events in our community as well as student celebrations. The shout outs are shared every Friday at 4 PM.
Just email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include a picture of the person you are highlighting, their name, why you are giving them a shout out, and where you are from.
If any of the kids are interested in being a 12News Weather Kid- parents can fill out the form and submit an audition video:
Channel 12 News does it every Thursday.
From Our PTO President
What an amazing First Quarter we had! Our Fall Fundraiser kicks off November 2nd and is a very important, fun and healthy way to raise money for Desert Trails Elementary School! Please help us reach our fundraising goal by supporting our Desert Trails Hawks Fun Run 2023. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, run by PTO volunteers!
We are raising money to support our four vital special programs: STEM, Art, Music & PE as well as classroom enhancements including purchasing the remaining SMART boards for each classroom and updating classroom furniture.
You will be receiving details in your student's take home folder on how to register. Feel free to take a sneak peak at: www.getmovinfundhub.com (School Identifier: 62f0f73874083)
All families are invited to join us for the culminating Fun Run on Friday, November 17th. More details to come!
Thank you in advance for your support!
