Dear Families-Read on for the News
Dear Palouse Prairie Families,
A new year always brings new hopes, dreams and plans. I have started 2021 with a very hopeful feeling. On Monday night I received the incredible news that all our teachers and school staff have the opportunity to receive their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this Thursday and Friday(January 21 and 22)! Staff were highly encouraged to participate in this crucial opportunity to increase the safety of our own teachers and community. As you can imagine, our staff almost jumped out of their seats (or screens as it may be) with pure joy and excitement when they heard this news.
Since the beginning of the school year, we have thought deeply about how to stay true to our mission, uphold our strong commitment to our students, and honor the feedback from all of our stakeholders. As a result, we have asked for a lot of feedback and have regularly adjusted our teaching and learning to better meet the needs we identify.
Over the last month, teachers have been adjusting and planning to provide students with more safe in-person time to learn with their peers. As vaccines become available to our teachers, emergency health workers, and those over the age of 65 across our community, we have another opportunity to reconsider how we can best educate and support our students safely. Staff are carefully evaluating how students are performing and feeling academically, socially, and emotionally. This information is guiding how we think about overall teaching and learning approaches.
Most of you have probably heard the news that the Moscow School District is in the planning process for a potential return to in-person learning four days per week after spring break based on clearing certain benchmarks. I want to assure you that the potential for more in-person learning is on our radar too. We are currently in the process of surveying our teaching staff, and will be seeking your feedback early next week to learn more about families’ desires and concerns.
It is an honor to serve and lead a school community that cares so deeply about the needs of students, families, and our staff. I am grateful to have families that are so supportive in our endeavours as we navigate unchartered territories.
In much appreciation,
Jeneille
