WLW Wins Big At MAMUN
As we’ve all witnessed lately, international events have an effect on all of us. Whether it is gas and food prices, or threats to the peace and security of the world, we’ve seen how fragile and difficult it is to maintain these important aspects of our lives. This past weekend, Western’s Model United Nations Club participated in the Mid-American Model United Nations (MAMUN) Conference in Kalamazoo, Michigan. They represented the nations of the United Kingdom and Germany and prepared to engage and resolve topics like measures to prevent international terrorism, the situation in Afghanistan, and the rights of indigenous peoples around the world. With the devastating events unfolding in Ukraine, the conference shifted to an emergency session to address this catastrophic situation.
Special thanks to all the delegates for their hard work, to Mr. Blackney for your leadership, to Mr. Johnson for attending and advising this year, and to Mrs. Tremblay for helping to make all this possible.
As a credit to their creativity and ability to adapt, Western delegates met the moment by developing sound solutions to the crisis and won Highest Honors for the conference. In addition to the top award, Western delegates also received the following:
- Highest Honors in Committee to Leona Lefevre and Jackie Roach.
- Second Honors in Committee was received by Bryce Zachariah.
- Second Honors in the Security Council was received by Sophia Marcell.
- Highest Honors In Crisis Committees: Lauren Prestage, Sean Gretzinger, and Zain Al-Mufti.
- Western won Highest Honors representing the nations of Germany, and Second Honors for representing the United Kingdom.
LVC Makes Donation to Support the Oxford Community
As you may know, schools across the state designated February as OXFORD STRONG MONTH, with Friday, February 4, slated as a day for as many schools as possible to be involved in supporting Oxford. Member schools within the Lakes Valley Conference joined the effort to support the Oxford community by hosting fundraising events. In the end, the Lakes Valley Conference is pleased to announce that a donation of $3065 will go towards the Community Memorial and Victims Fund - supported by Oxford Bank.
