The Ritenour Review
2017 - 2018 Fourth Grade Weekly News
Conferences and Circuits
This past week was BUSY, but filled with many great things! We kicked off the week with several conferences. Thank you for all that I've met with so far. Our conversations have been meaningful and allow me to reflect on each child's path for the remainder of the year. I look forward to meeting with everyone else this week.
In math, we are running with our second unit and having a lot of fun. We are learning square, composite and prime numbers and playing with the patterns we can find in sets. We are 'playing' a lot right now. My goal is for us to have a strong numbers sense and begin to look at numbers beyond their face values.
In writing, we are in the final stage and talk a lot about revising this week. We are looking beyond just corrections in our papers and essays. We now know we revise to make our stories better and stronger with our craft.
In reading, we prepped for our debate. A few book clubs have picked their debating stances and a few other groups are still trying to gather more information from their books first.
Coming up next!
- Math: We move into the geometry section of our unit - angles, triangles and parallelograms.
- Reading: We will host our debates on Monday. On Tuesday, the class will show their knowledge on the end of the unit assessment. We will close out the week transitioning into non-fiction reading skills.
- Science: We are working with electromagnetics!
- Writing: We will type our narrative stories!
