A Message from your Principal, Katie Johnson

It is hard to believe we are wrapping up our 4th week of having students back in our building, and IT FEELS GREAT! As the Principal, I am having difficulty finding the words to express my gratitude. By definition, gratitude means the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. I am truly thankful to be the Principal of our Cougar family. Your children have returned to school with kindness and appreciation for their teachers and our school. While we cannot see their smiles, I can sense the happiness and excitement as I walk the building. Your children are happy to be here. Our staff has returned to school with strong collaboration and appreciation for our students, community and each other. This has been a positive start for our staff, and the energy is high. Nothing can stop us - we are the Cougars! Finally, you - our families! We appreciate you, your support and your kindness. With your ongoing support, we are able to focus on the main thing - your children! If the first month is any indication of the school year ahead, it is going to be a great year.

In the end, thank you! It is our staff, your children and you that make Cottonwood Creek a great place to learn, engage, connect, lead, teach and to be!

Much Appreciation,

Katie Johnson

Who are the Cougars?

Molly Riley, School Psychologist

Hi Cougar Community!

My name is Molly Riley and I am your new School Psychologist! I am so excited to be a part of this incredible school and to be meeting all of the amazing students, families, and staff here. This is my first year working in Cherry Creek School District. I am originally from New Jersey, where I grew up in a small town in the southern part of the state. I attended the University of South Carolina, Columbia where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Soon after, I moved to Denver to complete my graduate studies at the University of Denver. There, I earned my Education Specialist Degree in Child, Family, and School Psychology. I was drawn to Colorado because of the lifestyle and all of the outdoor adventures we have! On the weekends you can find me hiking, biking, kayaking, snowboarding, and exploring around the mountain towns. I am very passionate about the work I do with students and believe in the power of teamwork. I can’t wait to continue to work with all of you to make this school year the best that it can be! Go Cougars!

Kelly Hronick, Literacy intervention and 3rd Grade ROAR

My name is Kelly Hronick and I am so excited to join the staff and learning community here at Cottonwood Creek! I have been a teacher for 15 years and in the Cherry Creek School district in various roles for 10 years. I will be teaching literacy intervention as well as ROAR. I have lived in Colorado for 20 years and love everything about this beautiful state! My family and I love to be outside hiking, biking, and paddle boarding whenever we can. I also enjoy traveling, reading, yoga, and hanging out with my dog Max. I have loved getting to know the students here at Cottonwood and hope to meet many of the parents during the upcoming year!

Julie Mazenko, Special Education Para Educator

Hello Cottonwood Creek Community, my name is Ms. Julie and I am the new Special Education Para. I am excited to be a member of the Cougar community. I have taught English as a Second Language to elementary students in Taiwan and English at the middle and high school levels in Illinois and Colorado. I love spending time with my family traveling, hiking, bike riding, and playing games. I am also a passionate baker and enjoyed making lots of cinnamon rolls, cookies, and pizzas during quarantine. I look forward to getting to know all of you this year.

Jason Mondragon, Physical Education

My Name is Jason Mondragon and I have been teaching Physical Education for 8 years in Colorado at the Ricks Center for gifted children at the University of Denver. This will be my first year teaching at Cottonwood Creek Elementary although I did do my student teaching here with Matt Mundy back in 2012. I am a native from Denver Colorado and graduated from Littleton high school in 2005. I went to college at Metro State University and received my degree in human performance and sport also got my k-12 teaching licensure in physical education in 2012.

There are many reasons why I became a PE teacher. Growing up I always had a love for children and I knew at an early age I wanted to be a teacher. My passion for sports was also very evident early on in my life and it became clear my dream job would be to become a P.E. teacher. In addition to teaching, I have been very involved in coaching (volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and baseball.) In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and spending time in the outdoors. I have spent almost 15 years working at various health clubs throughout the area and I love going to the gym. I am so excited to be back at cottonwood and look forward to meeting all of you!

In my free time I love to read, cook, and spend time with my family and friends. One fun fact you might not know about me is that I love to sing and laugh when my family gets together.

Lynn Baer, 4th Grade Teacher

Hello Families! My name is Lynn Baer and I am excited to join the Cottonwood Creek team as a fourth grade teacher! I have taught in Cherry Creek for 11 years, mainly in fourth grade but I also had the pleasure of teaching first and second grades. Originally I am from Iowa and am a Hawkeye having graduated from the University of Iowa. More recently I earned my graduate degree in education. I have called Colorado home for 27 years and when I'm not teaching I enjoy hiking and being in the mountains with my husband, two children and two dogs.
