Conferences

Make sure you are checking your conference sign up genius. Make contact with any family that has not signed up. I am working to deactivate the links on October 19th to make sure there are no last minute additions. I will keep you posted.

PTA is providing pulled pork sandwiches and fixings for the dinner on Wednesday night. It will be available for you directly following dismissal.

Lunch is provided through the wellness grant. Thank you, Coach, for organizing this! It will be picked up from Chipotle at 11 on Thursday. This was the earliest they could have it prepared.

83% of staff who particpated in the preference survey on conference times indicated they preferred the hours selected (8:00 - 7:00 on Thursday). If you schedule a conference outside the alloted times, let me know. I need to be aware of this as I am checking the building each evening to ensure staff safety.

If you would like me to be present for a parent conference, I am more than happy to support you. Send me a meeting maker and I'll sit in. Please know that as part of the evaluation process I will sit on some conferences as an observation of indicators that can't be observed in a typical classroom setting.

Report Cards

You can begin sending on Wednesday, October 26th. These may not be sent prior to the parent conference, but can be done during the conference. All must be emailed through SIS by the end of day Monday, October 31st.

After School Clubs

Clubs are a great opportunity to provide students a safe, structured, engaging after school environment. It would be great to have several club opportunities for Gladden kiddos to choose from. Below you will find two links. The first link is the Club Proposal form. If you would like to propose a club, fill out the form {you will need to make a copy, then edit} and turn it in to me. The second document that you will come to is the Club Criteria , an explanation of what the expectation for clubs is at the district level. This will outline the process and will also provide you with important information about the stipend, or hourly rate of pay. There is a minimum of 20 contact hours per club, per semester of clubs. You may choose to do one semester, or two. Time sheets are to be completed and turned in each month. The second document is your club proposal document. You must fill this document out in its entirety. Keep in mind that whatever club you choose, you must in some way tie to the curriculum using current standards or GLE's depending on the subject area of focus (be as specific as possible). If you need any help, or suggestions, please let me know.

Benefits of After School Clubs:

  • After school clubs provide opportunities for learning beyond the regular school day.
  • Provide opportunities for social, emotional, and physical development for students.
  • Socialization with peers outside of the regular school day.
  • Help students build confidence
  • Provides structures and opportunities for teamwork. Students can work together to achieve common goals.
  • Allows students to explore their creativity in a variety of settings.
  • Helps with attendance
  • Students that attend an after school club have more interest in school than peers that often are left unsupervised after school.

Red Ribbon Week

Staff are welcome to wear jeans next week with a $10 donation to Belton Cares.

Staff Meeting

This staff meeting October 19th will mainly be the United Way presentation and AED Training. We will be pretty tight on time with having two presenters. Keep this in mind as you are planning your family jobs.

Jill Molli

Jill Molli will be at Gladden all day on October 25th. I want to honor your time and ensure you have what you need to be prepared for conferences. With that, I am not going to burden staff with scheduling meetings during plan times. Please know that although it will not be required, if you'd like to visit with Jill or have her come visit your room, that would absolutely be supported and available. At this time, the plan for Jill's time on this day will be spent working with some parents and in the Focus Room. Let me know if you have any questions or would like some time with her.

Grandparents Night - November 3rd

Admittedly this event snuck up on us as a staff and PTA. This is a required event. I am cognizant that this is another after school event that is required in a short period of time. The goal is for PTA to do some front loading at the end of the year to get these events scheduled, started planning, and on the calendar in advance so there are no surprises. I do apologize for not having as much notice as we would like.

Professional Development and Literature

Conscious Discipline

Reflect: What was your body's reaction to Monday's Active Shooter Scenarios?

Apply: How does this connect with what we know to be true about the brain states?

Act: What can you change in your current practice to be more cognizant?
