Romeo Montague (external conflict)

People should not be hateful.

Act: one Scene: Five p. 1016 line 132

In the text it states, " O dear account! My life is my foe's debt..."

Romeo is speaking to his friend Benvolio, Romeo has just been informed that the girl he is in love with is the daughter of his family's ( the Montagues ) only enemy, the Capulets.The quote is relevant to the theme " people should not be hateful" because due to the hate the Montagues and the Capulets have for each other, now that their children have fallen in love with each other , many conflicts and problems will arise.

Act: three Scene: one p. 1048 lines 140-143

"Romeo. This shall determine that. [They fight. Tybalt falls.]... Benvolio... Tybalt Slain..."

In this quote Romeo is speaking to Tybalt, as they are about to sword fight, and then Benvolio speaks to Romeo because Romeo just killed Tybalt as revenge for the death of Mercutio. Because of Tybalt being hateful to Mercutio and thinking he was above him, Mercutio dies, which leads to the fight between Romeo and Tybalt , as Mercutio was Romeo's best friend.Hate was the cause of Mercutio's and Tybalt's death, there for a person should not be hateful.

Act: five Scene: three p. 1093 lines 72-75

"Wilt thou provoke me?" "Paris. 'O, I am slain..."' Romeo is speaking to Paris because Romeo is making an attempt to enter the Capulet Tomb so that he can die next to Juliet, however Paris believes Romeo to have bad intentions. This is relevant to the the a person should not be hateful because although Romeo does not have bad intentions, Paris has heard many negative things about Romeo, and does not know that Romeo and Juliet were in love. Because of the hate Juliet's family had for Romeo's Family Paris assumes that Romeo is a bad person.

Act: five Scene: one p.1089 lines 63-66

"let me have a dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear as will disperse itself through all the veins that the life-weary taker may fall dead..." This is relevant to the theme because Romeo is now planning to take his own life because he believes that Juliet is dead, when actually she is alive. Juliet faked her own death so that she and Romeo could be together in secret, however Romeo was not aware of this, all due to their feuding families, Romeo and Juliet die for eachother.
